The displacement of tooth and the deformation of flexspline of harmonic drive in transmission state were studied by finite element model with shell element. A finite element model of flexspline based on shell element was built with taper teeth on the flexspline, and the contact relationship was defined by contact element between the flexspline and wave generator. The deformation distribution of the flexspline and the deformed position of the teeth on the flexspline were obtained by nonlinear contact analysis in ANSYS environment under the transmission forces according to the loading distribution in the reference. The position of teeth tip and teeth root in front, middle and back plane along teeth length were given by the deformation results. The research shows that the positions and orientations of the teeth in the planes have quite different distributions, which may influence mesh property evidently. The deformation in transmission state in the paper is of importance in heavy loading harmonic drive design because there is no theory results for flexspline in transmission state.

Through the establishment of contact element simulated the contact between sucker rod and oil pipe. The deformation of sucker rods in oil pipe that caused by the screw pump rotor eccentricity has been researched by the application of transient dynamics analysis. Results show that screw pump rotor eccentricity is one of the reasons which cause rod and oil pipe contact resulting in partial abrasion. Deformation of the sucker rods caused by the rotor eccentricity is mainly concentrated on the bottom of rods, so in order to mitigate partial abrasion, rod centralizer arrangement at the bottom of rods should be strengthened, or change the connection mode between the sucker rod and screw pump rotor to eliminate the effect of the sucker rod deformation caused by rotor eccentric motion.

Accurate nanoparticle (NP) size determination is essential across research domains, with many functions in nanoscience and biomedical research being size-dependent. Although transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is capable of resolving a single NP down to the sub-nm scale, the reliable representation of entire populations is plagued by challenges in providing statistical significance, predominantly due to limited sample counts, suboptimal preparation procedures and operator bias during image acquisition and analysis. Meanwhile alternative techniques exist, but reliable implementation requires a detailed understanding of appendant limitations. Herein, conventional TEM is compared to the size determination of sub-10 nm gold NPs in solution by small-angle X-ray scattering and analytical ultracentrifugation. Form-free Monte Carlo fitting of scattering profiles offers access to a direct representation of the core size distribution while ultracentrifugation sedimentation velocity analysis provides information of the hydrodynamic size distribution. We report a comparison of these three methods in determining the size of quasi-monodisperse, polydisperse and bimodal gold nanoparticles of 2 – 7 nm and discuss advantages and limitations of each technique.
