The twin-screw pump is designed for pumping highly viscous materials in the food industry. Rheological characteristics of materials are important in the specification of design parameters of screw pumps. Analysis of flow in the twin-screw pumps with definition of non-newtonian materials can be made by numerical modelling. CFD generally oriented software ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS Polyflow has been used for modelling. In this study those software’s (ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS Polyflow) were defined for solution of flow in the twin-screw pumps. Results were compared for the same boundary conditions on the inlet and outlet of the 3D model. For definition of the viscosity were used the Nonnewtonian power law. Parameters as consistency coefficient and flow exponent for Nonnewtonian power law were analysed by software ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS Polyflow. Postprocessing form ANSYS Fluent and ANSYS Polyflow were made by contours of field and by graphs.

Abstract The rotary cold extrusion forming process is a plastic forming process with very low material loss, especially in the production of hollow screw rods with equal wall thickness. In this work, the rotary cold extrusion forming process of a hollow T2 copper screw rod with a wall thickness of 4 mm and solid T2 copper screw rod was verified by experimental method. The finite element simulation software Deform-3D was also used to simulate the rotary cold extrusion forming process of the screw rod. The effects of the die with different heights of the working belt and the different wall thickness of the billet on the eccentricity, extrusion force, and forming torque in the forming process of the screw rod were studied. The results show that it is feasible to process hollow and solid T2 copper screw rods with equal wall thickness by rotary cold extrusion. With the increase of die working belt height, the eccentricity of the screw rod becomes smaller and closer to the ideal eccentricity. With the increase of the wall thickness of the billet, the amplitude fluctuation range of the eccentricity of the screw rod gradually decreases. The higher the height of the die working belt, the greater the extrusion force and torque required in the extrusion process, and the more intense the change of torque. These results also provide theoretical guidance for the production practice and lightweight transformation of the screw pump rotor.

By introducing a multiphase twin screw pump as an artificial lifting device inside the well tubing (downhole) for wet gas compression application; i.e. gas volume fraction (GVF) higher than 95%, the unproductive or commercially unattractive gas wells can be revived and made commercially productive once again. Above strategy provides energy industry with an invaluable option to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions by reviving gas production from already existing infrastructure thereby reducing new exploratory and development efforts. At the same time above strategy enables energy industry to meet society’s demand for affordable energy throughout the critical energy transition from predominantly fossil fuels based resources to hybrid energy system of renewables and gas. This paper summarizes the research activities related to the applications involving multiphase twin screw pump for gas volume fraction (GVF) higher than 95% and outlines the opportunity that this new frontier of multiphase fluid research provides. By developing an understanding and quantifying the factors that influence volumetric efficiency of the multiphase twin screw pump, the novel concept of productivity improvement by a downhole wet gas compression using above technology can be made practicable and commercially more attractive than other production improvement strategies available today. Review and evaluation of the results of mathematical and experimental models for multiphase twin screw pump for applications with GVF of more than 95% has provided valuable insights in to multiphase physics in the gap leakage domains of pump and this increases confidence that novel theoretical concept of downhole wet gas compression using multiphase twin screw pump that is described in this paper, is practically achievable through further research and improvements.

Abstract Screw pumps have been widely used in many oilfields to lift the oil from wellbore to ground. The pump failure and delayed repair means well shut and production loss. A deep learning model is constructed to quickly identify the working status and accurately diagnose the failure types of the screw pumps, which can help the workers always get the information and give a fast repair. Firstly, running parameters of the screw pump, such as electric current, voltage, and instantaneous rate of flow, are obtained through the Real-time Data Acquisition System. Then the correlations between values or trends of those parameters and working status of the screw pump are calculated or analyzed. Results show that there is a good correlation between the current characteristics and various working status of screw pump. Current data at different times are expressed in polar coordinates, with the polar diameter representing the current value and the polar angle representing the time. The current-time curves of massive oil wells are then plotted in images with fixed resolution and divided into nine different groups to correspond to nine frequent working status of screw pump. A convolutional neural network (CNN) model is initialized, with the current-time curve as its input and the number codes representing working status as its output. Images mentioned above are used to train the CNN model, and the model parameters, such as the number of convolution layers, the size of convolution kernels and the activation function are optimized to minimize the training losses, which are the differences between the output codes and the right codes corresponding to the images. Finally, a robust CNN model is established, which can quickly and accurately judge the working state of the screw pump through electric current data. Based on this model, a software system connected with the oilfield database is developed, which can obtain the running parameters of the screw pumps in real time, identify their working states, judge the fault types of the abnormal situations, give alarms, and put forward solution suggestions. The system has now been widely used in Shengli Oilfield, which can help staff know the working conditions and fault types of abnormal wells in real time, speed up the maintenance progress, shorten the pump shutdown time and improve the production.

Abstract The oil and gas industry continues to push toward subsea pumping technologies that minimize required support systems and increase system reliability. Canned motor technology has been applied successfully in other applications to achieve similar objectives including driving a subsea twin-screw pump. Applied subsea, canned motors eliminate the need for any barrier fluids within the motor, the myriad of systems and complexities necessary to store and replenish these fluids, and the mechanical shaft seals required to prevent the leaking and/or contamination of these fluids within the motors. As a direct adaptation of proven applications, see Figure 1, subsea water treatment is ideal for canned motor technology. Therefore, a development has been initiated and environment qualification testing of the first truly barrier fluidless, sealless subsea pump solution is complete. This purpose of the paper is to highlight the novel elements of this technology, review the system configuration, and document the system performance in accordance with the TRL 4 qualification initiative.
