An attempt has been made to synthesize Ni1-xCoxFe2O4 by a simple technique of thermal evaporation with the help of egg white. The use of egg white (ovalbumin) in the synthesis process mainly helps to shape the particle during the reaction. The X-ray diffraction patterns reveal that the synthesized Ni1-XCoxFe2O4 ferrites are in nanocrystalline phase. The transmission electron microscopy observation confirmed that the average particle size of Ni1-xCoxFe2O4 has been varied from 7 nm to 30 nm. EDX spectrum gives account of the percentage composition of the products such as nickel, cobalt, Fe and O. Vibrating Samples Magnetometer (VSM) have been sued to study the saturation magnetization for variation of Ni substitution over CoFe2O4 and the influence of particle size in magnetic properties. Its analysis is based on the aspect of variation in coercivity with temperature. The FTIR spectra of the sample in the range 400 – 4000 cm-1 reveals the common feature of ferrites like high frequency band to the tetrahedral and low frequency band to the octahedral stretching vibrations.

This study focuses on two different techniques for preparation of nickel manganite (NiMn2O4) system. One approach is conventional ceramic method, and the second is based on replacing the ceramic route with green synthesis mediated by egg white. The goal of this strategy is produce a single nanomagnetic phase of NiMn2O4 using a mostly simple one-step method with specific characteristics as seen in the second route compared to the ceramic method. The as synthesized system was characterized by using various techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron micrographs (SEM), and Energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS). XRD, EDS and SEM analyses confirm a successful synthesis of NiMn2O4 single phase with cubic spinel and sponge crystal structures. The particles are polycrystalline in their nature and average crystallite size ranged between 76 and 90 nm. Egg white assisted combustion method imparted amelioration in the system crystallization, size of grain, distribution of cation and magnetic properties of the as prepared materials. The magnetic mensuration suggested that the obtained nickel manganite shows ferromagnetism at room temperature with an optimum value (3.56 emu/g) of saturation magnetization.

Abstract: As a simple step to remove the polluting dyes in aqua ecosystem, NiFe2O4 nanoparticles well known for their ferromagnetic properties, low conductivity and high electrochemical stability were prepared by simple auto combustion method using egg white as fuel via green synthesis route. The structural, morphological and magnetic properties of prepared NiFe2O4 was analyzed. The desirable phase purity of the prepared spinel ferrite was deliberated by X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive and Vibrating Sample Magnetometer (VSM). XRD predicts the phase formation, particle size and lattice parameter of the spinel ferrite. The FTIR spectrum confirms the ferrite structure. The morphological and elemental analysis was made using SEM and EDAX. The hysteresis curve reveals the magnetic properties, such as remanence magnetization (Mr), coercivity (Hc) and saturation magnetization (Ms). The photocatalytic efficiency of the synthesized samples was determined from degradation of methylene blue dye. The whole process was monitored using spectrophotometer at regular intervals of time. The maximum photocatalytic degradation efficiency for NiFe2O4 is around 95.6 %. Keywords: NiFe2O4, Ferrite, Green synthesis, Egg white, Combustion, Photocatalyst.
