Microstructure and mechanical properties of Ni-Cr alloys with various contents of Phosphorus (P) have been investigated. It is found that the increase of phosphorus refined dendritic structures in as-cast alloys and decreased micro-segregation of Chromium (Cr) element. α-Cr which precipitated during hot-rolling process was obviously inhibited by phosphorus because of its prior occupancy on grain boundaries and decreasing precipitation driving force of α-Cr. Tensile and impact properties were examined on samples under different heat treatments. Though the yield strength of as-rolled alloys was increased by precipitation of α-Cr, the elongation and impact energies were reduced. It is worthy to note that impact energies of samples solutioned at 950°C increased with the increasing phosphorus. The results indicated that dislocations are markedly effected by phosphorus which is probably the reason for improving impact energies.

The 304 austenite stainless steel and low carbon steel clad plate was fabricated by casting and hot rolling process. The mechanical properties and interface shear strength of clad plates with different thickness after rolling were investigated in detail. The microstructure characteristics of the clad interface were observed by SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope). The phases and chemical composition were analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction) and EDS (energy dispersive spectroscopy). Based on the results, the mechanical properties and interface shear strengths meet the requirements of national standards. No visible cracks were observed in the clad interface after bending test. Cr3C2precipitates, Fe3O4oxides and Fe-Cr intermetallic compound were distributed around the interface of clad plate after casting, but a good metallurgical bonding was achieved after hot-rolling.

Influence of different heat treatment on microstructure and mechanical properties of mining machinery steel Plate containing molybdenum niobium was investigated. As-rolled steel plate was processed by normalizing and normalization-tempering respectively. Mechanical properties of as-rolled steel plate, normalizing steel plate and normalizing-tempering steel plate and their microstructures was made a contrast. The experiment result showed that formation of coarse ferrite grain in as-rolled state leads to lower impact toughness. Normalizing treatment can refine coarse ferrite formed in hot rolling process but formation of carbon oversaturation induced new dislocation and distortion. Processing of proper normalizing-tempering can eliminate coarse ferrite in as-rolled state and relieve new dislocation and distortion formed in normalizing process, and therefore made the mechanical properties of the as-rolled plate be the best state.

The development of aviation industry demands hot rolled aluminium alloy extra thick plates. However, it is quite difficult to obtain sufficient and uniform deformation of extra thick plate by conventional hot rolling process. The asymmetric hot rolling can generate an additional shear deformation and significantly improve the equivalent strain at the centre of the plate and consequently the uniformity of the microstructure, and mechanical properties. In the present work, the asymmetric rolling (ASR) was achieved by adjusting the diameters of the upper roll and the lower roll and was used to prepare hot rolled thick plate of an aluminium alloy. The effect of the asymmetric hot rolling process on the deformation, shape control, microstructure and mechanical properties was experimentally studied. The results showed that the ASR has a significant effect on metal deformation and can somehow refine microstructure and improve the uniformity of microstructure and properties although plate bending often happens during rolling process. This paper presents these results and gives corresponding discussions.
