A technic, named as mechanical-electrolysis polishing (MEP), is investigated for space-curve meshing-wheel (SCMW) made of titanium alloy by the selective laser melting rapid prototyping process (SLM), to improve their surface quality. Firstly, the effect of polishing time, voltage, gap between the cathode and the workpiece on the surface roughness and transmission accuracy are analyzed. Secondly, the post-treatment experiment results under different parameters are analyzed, and optimal parameters are obtained by the kinematics experiments. The results show that, the transmission accuracy would be raised with an average of about 1.8% by improving surface quality of titanium alloy SCMW.

In order to improve the surface quality of titanium alloy in electric discharge machining (EDM) milling, presents electrode ultrasonic vibration assisted EDM milling in the kerosene fluid which fills with 12g/L SiC abrasive particles. By the comparison test of surface roughness between EDM milling and abrasive particle ultrasonic vibration assisted EDM milling in short pulse(pulse width less than 1μs), it is found that ultrasonic vibration role of SiC particle could effectively improve surface roughness from Ra 0.5μm to 0.2μm. The recast layer and surface crack are analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM).Results show the thickness of recast layer reduced 20-30μm and surface crack decreased obviously under the role of abrasive particle ultrasonic vibration. It shows that the combined action of ultrasonic vibration and abrasive particle can dramatically improve the surface quality of titanium alloy in EDM milling.

The incremental forming of titanium alloy sheets combines the advantages of this advanced flexible manufacturing process, that allows to produce complex components without using dedicated tools, with the interesting properties of the material under consideration. In this study, thin sheets of grade 1 titanium were incrementally formed to evaluate their formability and surface quality by varying the tool-sheet contact conditions. Experimental tests and surface analyses highlight dependence on the contact conditions of the surface quality rather than of the formability. Moreover, they emphasize that the tool-sheet contact conditions mainly affect the repeatability of the process due to the occurrence of galling.
