Abstract It is known that a polynomial local diffeomorphism $(f,\, g): {\mathbb {R}}^{2} \to {\mathbb {R}}^{2}$ is a global diffeomorphism provided the higher homogeneous terms of $f f_x+g g_x$ and $f f_y+g g_y$ do not have real linear factors in common. Here, we give a weight-homogeneous framework of this result. Our approach uses qualitative theory of differential equations. In our reasoning, we obtain a result on polynomial Hamiltonian vector fields in the plane, generalization of a known fact.

This chapter argues for the incompatibility of moral responsibility and determinism. The real reason why determinism and moral responsibility are inconsistent is not moral, but metaphysical. The real reason is that determinism is inconsistent with agency, which is a necessary (though not, of course, a sufficient) condition of moral responsibility.

In this paper we present a special kind of real symmetric matrices: the real symmetric doubly arrow matrices. That is, matrices which look like two arrow matrices, forward and backward, with heads against each other at the station, . We study a kind of inverse eigenvalue problem and give a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of such matrices.

Daley and Vesilo (1997) introduced long-range count dependence (LRcD) for stationary point processes on the real line as a natural augmentation of the classical long-range dependence of the corresponding interpoint sequence. They studied LRcD for some renewal processes and some output processes of queueing systems, continuing the previous research on such processes of Daley (1968), (1975). Subsequently, Daley (1999) showed that a necessary and sufficient condition for a stationary renewal process to be LRcD is that under its Palm measure the generic lifetime distribution has infinite second moment. We show that point processes dominating, in a sense of stochastic ordering, LRcD point processes are LRcD, and as a corollary we obtain that for arbitrary stationary point processes with finite intensity a sufficient condition for LRcD is that under Palm measure the interpoint distances are positively dependent (associated) with infinite second moment. We give many examples of LRcD point processes, among them exchangeable, cluster, moving average, Wold, semi-Markov processes and some examples of LRcD point processes with finite second Palm moment of interpoint distances. These examples show that, in general, the condition of infiniteness of the second moment is not necessary for LRcD. It is an open question whether the infinite second Palm moment of interpoint distances suffices to make a stationary point process LRcD.

The notion of the inverse of a matrix with entries from the real or complex fields was generalized by Moore (6, 7) in 1920 to include all rectangular (finite dimensional) matrices. In 1951, Bjerhammar (2, 3) rediscovered the generalized inverse for rectangular matrices of maximal rank. In 1955, Penrose (8, 9) independently rediscovered the generalized inverse for arbitrary real or complex rectangular matrices. Recently, Arghiriade (1) has given a set of necessary and sufficient conditions that a matrix commute with its generalized inverse. These conditions involve the existence of certain submatrices and can be expressed using the notion of EPr matrices introduced in 1950 by Schwerdtfeger (10). The main purpose of this paper is to prove the following theorem:Theorem 2. A necessary and sufficient condition that the generalized inverse of the matrix A (denoted by A+) commute with A is that A+ can be expressed as a polynomial in A with scalar coefficients.

Abstract In this paper will be considered density-like points and density-like topology in the family of Lebesgue measurable subsets of real numbers connected with a sequence 𝓙= {Jn}n∈ℕ of closed intervals tending to zero. The main result concerns necessary and sufficient condition for inclusion between that defined topologies.
