According to the process of anodic oxygen evolution in sulfate system for zinc electrolysis,Ti-base lead dioxide electrode can be prepared to use in this case. The surface characterization of the electrode was studied by Scanning electron microscopy(SEM) and X-ray diffraction(XRD).The electrode lifetime was tested in 1mol/L H2SO4solution at 60°C,and the electro-catalytic properties was examined by polarization curves. Then these samples was enlarged and simulation test was conducted at Mengzi marriage zinc smelter in Yunnan. The results show that the electro-catalytic properties is better and the electrodes lifetime is longer compared to the traditional lead electrode. Moreover,it has a significant effect in reducing energy consumption, manufacturing cost and improving the production and grade of zinc.

The distribution and bioavailability of heavy metals in waters and sediments from Lake Macquarie (N.S.W.) have been examined. Elevated concentrations of zinc, lead, cadmium and copper detected in surface sediments and waters from the northern end of the lake are attributable to discharges from a lead-zinc smelter on Cockle Creek. The majority of the metals are in bioavailable forms and are shown to be accumulated in seagrasses, seaweeds and bivalves. Calculations indicate that, at the current rates of discharge, the concentrations of bioavailable metals in newly-deposited sediments should not be deleterious. Elutriate tests showed that there will be no significant mobilization of metals during dredging operations to remove the contaminated sediments.

In comparison with control animals, a significant negative correlation (r = 0.77 -), between lead level and the activity of daminolevulinic acid dehydratase activity in the blood of land turtle (Testudo hermanni, Gmel.) caught in five different localities from heavy polluted environment of lead and zinc smelter “Trepca” was found. The concentration ratio of lead level in blood between control animals and those from the vicinity of smelter was 10:160 % and ratio of ALA-D activity was 10:18,3 U/LE.
