In this paper, we employ both qualitative analysis and numerical simulation to investigate bounded traveling waves in a general compressible hyperelastic rod. Some new bounded traveling waves are found. Their implicit expressions are obtained. Also, their planar graphs are simulated. Since they possess some properties of kink waves, we call them generalized kink waves.

Fire is one of the major hazards in coal mines. After the fire broke out.the primary task of disaster rescue is to judge the location of fire and it is the prerequisite of analyzing the combustion state, the base of fire prediction. In this paper, the method of tunnel fire location judgment combining with qualitative and quantitative analysis is used, it includes the qualitative analysis basing on sets theory and quantitative analysis on fuzzy clustering. The potential location can be conversely reasoned by the warning sensors and the scope can be narrowed down widely. On this basis, the distance and similarity between the veritable time difference and the numerical simulation difference are calculated and by the value we can know the site of the fire.

Some new insights into the anti-phase synchronization of a network of inhibitorily coupled neurons are presented by means of qualitative analysis and numerical simulation. The network, which satisfies three significant conditions, gives rise to typical anti-phase synchronous solutions. By using the geometric method of dynamical systems, each corresponding reduced network model is analyzed, and a special and important parameter region, called P*-jumping up region, is identified. In terms of some basic properties of the P*-jumping up region, two conditions for the neuron states to enter this region are given. These conditions can be satisfied by adjusting a parameter K that controls the decay speed of the inhibitory coupling. Furthermore, it is concluded that if the parameter K is chosen so as to satisfy the two conditions, then two neurons will achieve anti-phase synchronous oscillation, independent of the initial conditions.

The hereditary two-mode model of the aw-dynamo proposed earlier by the author is studied from the point of view of the theory of oscillators. It is shown that this approach allows one to perform a qualitative analysis of the model’s behavior and predict possible dynamic regimes without numerical simulation. Examples of comparison of the results of qualitative analysis and modeling are given.
