A new two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer, namely, poly[[diaqua[μ3-(S)-2-(benzylamino)succinato-κ4 N,O 1:O 1′:O 4]cadmium(II)] monohydrate], {[Cd(C11H11NO4)(H2O)2]·H2O} n , has been synthesized by the solvothermal reaction of Cd(CH3COO)2·2H2O with the synthesized ligand (S)-2-(benzylamino)succinic acid (H2 L). The title compound has been structurally characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. In the crystal structure, each CdII cation binds to three carboxylate groups from three symmetry-related L 2− dianions. The tetradentate L 2− ligand links three symmetry-related CdII cations into a 2D folding sheet, which can be simplified as a uninodal (3,3)-connected hcb net with the point symbol (63). In the lattice, all the folding sheets are arranged in an interdigitated fashion and aggregate into zipper-like arrays through interlayer π–π interactions. The large and nonpolar side chain may play an important role in the formation and aggregation of the 2D sheet. The thermal stability and photoluminescence properties of the title compound were investigated, and it exhibits a blue emission with a quantum yield of 8%.

Assembling potassium acid phthalate (KHphth) and dysprosium nitrate, a novel luminescent two-dimensional layer-like dysprosium coordination polymer with the formula [Dy2(phth)3H2O]n has been synthesized by a hydrothermal process. It is unexpected that the complex exhibits a new coordination mode with phthalate and an asymmetrical structure for the two dysprosium fragments in the molecular unit. The title coordination polymer crystallizes in the mono clinic system, space group P21/c, with lattice parameters a = 7.913(2) Å, b = 26.360(7) Å, c = 11.563(3) Å, β = 106.864(3)°, V = 2308.3(11) Å3, Dc = 2.404 Mg/m3, Z = 4, F(000) = 1576, GOF = 1.079, R1 = 0.0282. The luminescence spectrum shows that the blue emission intensity of the 4F9/2 → 6H15/2 transition is stronger than the yellow emission intensity of the 4F9/2 → 6H13/2 transition. Key words: dysprosium (III), two-dimensional layer-like coordination polymer, molecular structure, luminescence, hydrothermal synthesis.

Self-assembly of a rationally designed AIE active LMWG, driven by intermolecular H-bonding, forms 1D nanofibers with strong cyan emission due to AIE properties of the TPE core. On the other hand, addition of metal ions results in the formation of nanotubular structures with strong blue emission in the gel state due to AIE and MCIE.

In poly[[μ3-2,2′-(disulfanediyl)dibenzoato-κ5 O:O,O′:O′′,O′′′](1,10-phenanthroline-κ2 N,N′)cadmium(II)], [Cd(C14H8O4S2)(C12H8N2)] n , the asymmetric unit contains one CdII cation, one 2,2′-(disulfanediyl)dibenzoate anion (denoted dtdb2−) and one 1,10-phenanthroline ligand (denoted phen). Each CdII centre is seven-coordinated by five O atoms of bridging/chelating carboxylate groups from three dtdb2− ligands and by two N atoms from one phen ligand, forming a distorted pentagonal–bipyramidal geometry. The CdII cations are bridged by dtdb2− anions to give a two-dimensional (4,4) layer. The layers are stacked to generate a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture via a combination of aromatic C—H...π and π–π interactions. The thermogravimetric and luminescence properties of this compound were also investigated.
