A new species of Catasetum Rich. ex Kunth (Orchidaceae), Catasetum apolloi Benelli & Grade, from the municipality of Carlinda in the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil is described and illustrated. The plant was discovered in a pasture near the Teles Pires River growing epiphytically under the palm Maximiliana regia Mart. A discussion and consideration of possible related species is presented.

A new species of Dyckia from  the municipality of Porto Murtinho, in the state Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil is described and illustrated here and compared with two of the closest related species known. Its conservation status is discussed.

Abstract—A synopsis of Dicliptera (Acanthaceae) for Brazil is presented. Six species are recognized: Dicliptera ciliaris, D. sexangularis, and D. squarrosa, widely distributed in South America; D. purpurascens, which ranges from the North Region of Brazil (in the state of Acre) to eastern Bolivia; D. gracilirama, a new species from the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil; and D. granchaquenha, a new species recorded in dry and semideciduous forests in Bolivia and western Brazil, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Furthermore, we propose new synonyms and designate lectotypes for eleven names. An identification key to the six accepted Dicliptera species in Brazil is provided.

Kielmeyera ferruginosa, a new species of Calophyllaceae from the Atlantic Forest of southern Bahia, is here described and illustrated. The species is critically endangered and can be easily distinguished from other Kielmeyera species by the rusty coloration of the trunk and branches, orange-colored latex, and the occurrence in flooded areas. It differs from the other species of the section Prolifera by the leaves with secondary veins relatively more distant from each other and prominent on the abaxial surface. Diagnostic characters and the state of conservation of the new species are discussed, and an identification key for K. ferruginosa and related species from series Rupestres and Neglectae is provided.

Four species of Borreria subsection Latifoliae (Rubiaceae) present intrafloral variations in the insertion/length of stamens in homostylous flowers. Borreria heteranthera is described and illustrated as new species from the state of Pará, Brazil. The emended descriptions of Borreria hispida, B. semiamplexicaule and B. xanthophylla, with details on stamens morphology and insertion, are provided. The inclusion of B. xanthophylla in the subsection Latifoliae is proposed. Staminal arrangement, pollen grains and seed morphology of the four species are compared. A comparative table with ecological, palynological, and morphological features of each species is provided. In addition, Borreria semiamplexicaule is mentioned as a new record for the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil, and the lectotype of B. hispida is here designated.

It is described and illustrated Catasetum colidense, from margins of the Teles Pires River, in Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The new species is compared and discussed with the morphologically related species. É descrita e ilustrada Catasetum colidense, oriunda das margens do rio Teles Pires, estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. During a faunal rescue conducted at a hydroelectric power station constructed in a Cerrado savanna area in the state of Mato Grosso, a sample of five small stripe-patterned individuals of snakes of the genusApostolepisCope, 1862 document the existence of an undescribed species, which is named herein. The new species can be distinguished from its congeners by a combination of scale counts, number of maxillary teeth and color pattern. The new species is most similar toApostolepisborelliiPeracca, 1904,A.lineataCope, 1887,A.nelsonjorgeiLema & Renner, 2004,A.nigroterminataBoulenger, 1896,A.serranaLema & Renner, 2006 andA.underwoodiLema & Campbell, 2017 in its coloration pattern. However, it is distinguished from these species by having a pair of triangular blotches covering portions of the third to sixth supralabials, a white nuchal collar, the shape of the fourth supralabial and the shape of the tip of tail, the number of supralabials in contact with parietals, the size of the anterior chinshields, the color pattern of the paraventral side, parietal and terminal scales, the width of dorsal stripes, and a distinct number of subcaudals. The new species occurs in areas within the Cerrado biome.

A new species of Pseudopaludicola is described from the state of Mato Grosso, western Brazil. The new species inhabitsthe transition zone between Brazilian Cerrado and Amazon rainforest in northern Mato Grosso, and is characterized by itsmedium size (snout-vent length 12–17 mm), lack of T-shaped terminal phalanges, toe tips not expanded laterally, presenceof two antebrachial tubercles, and smooth upper eyelids. The advertisement call of the new species consists of a seriescomposed of 11–74 non-pulsed notes. Mean dominant frequency is 3938 Hz. Each note presents a slight ascendantfrequency modulation in its first half, and another ascendant modulation in its last half. We also present new data on the distribution and conservation status of Pseudopaludicola canga.

During analysis of herbarium collections for a taxonomic review of the Brazilian species of Gurania from the Atlantic forest, one new species was discovered. The new species is known only from the state of Bahia and honors Dr. Michael H. Nee. A description, illustrations, and photos of Gurania neei are presented along with comments on its similarities and differences with related species.

Varipes helenae, new species, (Ephemeroptera: Baetidae) is described based on nymphs collected from the State of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The new species is distinguished by setation of labrum, number of denticles in both mandibles, prostheca of right mandible bifid, not reduced, medial hump of maxilla with a spiniform seta, distomedial process of labial palp segment 2 rounded, relatively few setae on femora, and number of spines on the paraproct. This is the first report of the genus Varipes from Brazil.

A new species of pseudothelphusid crab of the tribe Kingsleyini Ortmann, 1897, from the southern Amazon region in the state of Rondônia, Brazil, is described and illustrated. Fredius avilai n. sp. can be readily distinguished from its congeners by the following characters of the male first gonopod: mesial lobe elongated, convoluted, proximal portion directed laterally, distal portion sharply recurved in abdominal direction; marginal process rounded, not projected over distal opening of spermatic channel, merging with distal portion of abdominal surface after a shallow depression; lateral suture well demarcated along mesoabdominal surface of stem, distal portion directed inwards. The assignment of the new species to the genus Fredius Pretzmann, 1967 and its affinities with another closed related species are discussed.
