Wheat spot mosaic (WSpM), which frequently occurs with wheat streak mosaic virus was first reported in 1956 from Alberta. Singly isolated, WSpM causes chlorotic spots, chlorosis, stunting, and sometimes death of the wheat plants. The vector responsible for transmission is the eriophyid mite, Eriophyes tulipae Kiefer. The examination of leaf ultrastructure by electron microscopy has revealed double membrane bound bodies (DMBB’s) 0.1-0.2 μm in diameter. Dispersed fibrils within these bodies suggested the presence of nucleic acid. However, neither ribosomes characteristic of bacteria, mycoplasma and the psittacosis group of organisms nor an electron dense core characteristic of many viruses was commonly evident.In an attempt to determine if the DMBB’s contain nucleic acids, RNase A, DNase I, and lactoferrin protein were conjugated with 10 nm colloidal gold as previously described. Young root and leaf tissues from WSpM-affected wheat plants were fixed in glutaraldehyde, postfixed in osmium tetroxide,and embedded in Spurr’s resin.

Abstract The Saccharomyces cerevisiae SIS2 gene was identified by its ability, when present on a high copy number plasmid, to increase dramatically the growth rate of sit4 mutants. SIT4 encodes a type 2A-related protein phosphatase that is required in late G1 for normal G1 cyclin expression and for bud initiation. Overexpression of SIS2, which contains an extremely acidic carboxyl terminal region, stimulated the rate of CLN1, CLN2, SWI4 and CLB5 expression in sit4 mutants. Also, overexpression of SIS2 in a CLN1 cln2 cln3 strain stimulated the growth rate and the rate of CLN1 and CLB5 RNA accumulation during late G1. The SIS2 protein fractionated with nuclei and was released from the nuclear fraction by treatment with either DNase I or micrococcal nuclease, but not by RNase A. This result, combined with the finding that overexpression of SIS2 is extremely to a strain containing lower than normal levels of histones H2A and H2B, suggests that SIS2 might function to stimulate transcription via an interaction with chromatin.

The dynamic behavior of an autocatalytic reaction with a product inhibition term is studied in a flow system. A unique steady state exists in the continuous tank reactor. Linear stability analysis predicts either a stable node, a focus or an unstable saddle-focus. Sustained oscillations around the unstable focus can occur for high values of the Damköhler number (Da). In the distributed system, travelling, standing or complex oscillatory waves are detected. For a low value of Da, travelling waves with a pseudo-constant pattern are observed. With an intermediate value of Da, single or multiple standing waves are obtained. The temporal behavior indicates also the appearance of retriggering or echo waves. For a high value of Da, both single peak and complex multipeak oscillations are found. In the cell model, both regular oscillations near the inlet and chaotic behavior downstream are observed. In the dispersion model, higher Peclet numbers (Pe) eliminate the oscillations. The spatial profile shows a train of pulsating waves for the discrete model and a single pulsating or solitary wave for the continuous model.
