Quantum leaps in technology affect all phases of business models over numerous industries and are the fundamental characteristic of any technological revolution. Emerging technologies provide new avenues for industries to increase their competitive advantage and enhance the economic progression. The aim of this study is to advance a theoretical model on motivating antecedents and consequences of blockchain technology in insurance industry based on the evidence from past literature. This chapter is approached from the theoretical viewpoint, so it meticulously assesses and examines the prior literature to debate on the role of blockchain technology in the insurance industry. The outcome of the present study is dispassionate and corresponding to the conclusions of the prior literature. Blockchain helps in achieving innovation, augmenting transparency, refining data standards, and advancing an integrated approach for quality service. Thus, the espousal of blockchain in insurance is developing very quickly, and it has become the default platform for the complete insurance industry.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the antecedents and consequences of insurer trust and salesperson trust, as well as the relationships between insurer, salesperson, and customer loyalty in order to build a conceptual model which investigates the relationships of insurer trust and salesperson trust, and finds ways to build trust and customer loyalty in the non-life insurance industry in Taiwan. Design/methodology/approach – The data for this study were collected from the customers of non-life insurers’ policyholder service centres and were analysed using in-depth interviews and questionnaires. Structural equation modelling (SEM) was to assess the proposed research model empirically. Findings – This study finds that firm size did not have a significant effect on insurer trust. Customer trust in the insurer was negatively but not significantly related to customer trust in the salesperson. Additionally, when relatives or friends are insurance salespersons; it is easy to build trust with them. Originality/value – This study provides non-life insurers with new avenues for promoting and marketing their insurance.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to closely investigate the antecedents affecting relationship quality and its consequences between life insurers and their customers. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from the customers of life insurers’ customer relationship management centres and were analysed using in-depth interviews and questionnaires. A structural equation modelling approach is employed to test the hypotheses. Findings – The findings are generally consistent with the literature. This study supports all hypotheses. Finally, the findings of this study confirm that relationship quality mediates the effects of salesperson characteristics and relational selling behaviour on customer loyalty. Originality/value – To the authors knowledge, there is little published research that examines antecedents and consequences of relationship quality in life insurance industry in Taiwan. Therefore, in addition to developing high-quality services, life insurers need to establish and maintain long-term relationships with customers in order to create corporate innovation value.

The Takaful (Islamic Insurance) industry is still in infancy in the UAE. Almost eighty percent of the insurance industry is conventional, and the remaining is Takaful. A firm’s reputation is one of its most important intangibles resources, and it is a major source of competitive advantage and to improve financial performance. Many of the customers choosing their service provider consider reputation criteria among other factors. It is worth determining the antecedents and consequences of corporate reputation in the Takaful industry so that marketers can improve the reputation of their service providers and their industry by using various strategies to increase the loyalty and word of mouth among Takaful customers. The sample size is 325, and data was gathered from Takaful customers who have car Takaful policies. Scale and items for each construct were initially gathered from existing literature and then refined with the help of academic and industry experts. The measurement instrument used was analysed for reliability, convergent, and discriminant validity by means of confirmatory factor analysis. The research hypotheses were tested by using structural equation modelling. Corporate social responsibility (CSR), customer satisfaction, trust, and social media engagement proved to be most important antecedents of Takaful service providers. The findings suggest that Takaful marketers should consider in investing in effective reputation strategies to gain loyalty and perceived customer value. The study provides valuable insights into the antecedents and consequences of corporate reputation in the Takaful industry. Since this study focuses only on Takaful industry and was cross-sectional, further studies need to be done. This study found that corporate reputation is influenced by national culture, and it suggests effective strategies to improve the reputation of Takaful service providers compare to their counterparts in conventional insurance.

Abstract Controversy attends use of the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment (AMA Guides) in defining injured workers’ permanent partial disability benefits: States desire an efficient, nonsubjective way to determine benefits for nonscheduled injuries and are using the AMA Guides to define the extent of disability. Organized labor is concerned that use of the AMA Guides, particularly with modifications, does not yield a fair analysis of an injured worker's disability. From its first issue, The Guides Newsletter emphatically emphasized and clearly stated that impairment percentages derived according to AMA Guides criteria should not be used to make direct financial awards or direct estimates of disability. The insurance industry and organized labor differ about the use of the AMA Guides in defining permanent partial disability (PPD). Insurers support use of the AMA Guides because they seek a uniform system that minimizes subjectivity in determining benefits. Organized labor is particularly concerned about the lack of fairness of directly equating impairment and disability, and if the rating plays a role in defining disability, additional issues also must be considered. More states are likely to use the AMA Guides with incorporation of additional features such as an index to PPD.
