A plasticized poly(vinyl chloride) membrane electrode based on 4-[(5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylimino)methyl]benzene-1,3-diol (L) for highly selective determination of palladium(II) (in PdCl42– form) is developed. The electrode showed a good Nernstian response (29.6 ± 0.4 mV per decade) over a wide concentration range (3.1 × 10–7 to 1.0 × 10–2 mol l–1). The limit of detection was 1.5 × 10–7 mol l–1. The electrode has a response time of about 20 s, and it can be used for at least 2 months without observing any considerable deviation from Nernstian response. The proposed electrode could be used in the pH range of 2.5–5.5. The practical utility of the electrode has been demonstrated by its use for the estimation of palladium content in aqueous samples.

A new PVC membrane electrode highly selective to Mn(II), based on 2,2′-bis(salicylideneamino)azobenzene as an ionophore. The electrode exhibits a Nernstian response to Mn(II) ions over a concentration range 0.8 × 10–1–1.1 × 10–7 mol l–1 with a slope of 30.5 ± 0.5 mV per decade and detection limit 5.5 × 10–8 mol l–1. The electrode was used for 45 days at the minimum without any measurable potential divergence. Also, the electrode revealed a fairly good discrimination ability between Mn(II) ions and some cations and anions. The electrode was also utilized as indicator electrode in the potentiometric titration of Mn(II) with EDTA and in determination of Mn(II) in drug as well as tape and river water.

New, simple, sensitive and rapid method for the determination of propranolol in the pharmaceutical preparations and human fluids. The Buildup and electrochemical response characteristics of a poly vinyl chloride (PVC) selective membrane electrode for the determination of propranolol (POP) are described in this research. The proposed electrodes was composed of propranolol-bromophenol blue as ion-exchanger and Di-butyl phthalate (DBPH) (electrode A), tris (2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEHP) (electrode B), and ortho-nitrophenyloctylether (ONPOE) (electrode C), as plasticizers. The slope was 50.94, 57.77, and 49.75 mV/decade for electrode A, B and C. the linear range was 5 ×10-5 – 1×10-2, 1×10-4 – 1×10-2, and 5×10-5 – 1×10-2 M, a detection limit of 4.2×10-5, 8.9×10-5, and 4.8×10-5 M, lifetime of 21, 42, and 1-day, respectively. Electrode B gives the best results, so the application of pharmaceutical and human fluids was based upon this electrode, the recovery percentage was 103, 101, 102.5, and 104 for POP tablet 10mg, tablet 40mg, urine and plasma by standard addition method, respectively.
