Novel 1,3-oxazepine derivatives have been synthesis via (2+5) cycloaddition reaction of imines and selected cyclic carboxylic acid anhydrides by refluxing in dry benzene. Imines have been prepared by thermal condensation of 4-methyl aniline and para substituted benzaldehyde in absolute ethanol under reflux conditions. The structure of the target compounds were Identified by some physical properties and spectral data of FT-IR and 1H-NMR.

As part of an ongoing series of experimental charge-density investigations into the intra- and intermolecular interactions present in compounds which undergo solid-state [2 + 2] cycloaddition reactions, the charge-density analyses of trans-cinnamic acid and coumarin-3-carboxylic acid are reported. Thus, high-resolution single-crystal X-ray diffraction data were recorded at 100 K for trans-cinnamic acid (sin θ/λmax = 1.03 Å−1) and coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (sin θ/λmax = 1.19 Å−1). In addition to the anticipated O—H...O hydrogen bonds weak C—H...O interactions were identified in both structures along with very weak intermolecular interactions between pairs of molecules that undergo solid-state [2 + 2] cycloaddition reactions upon irradiation.

Diastereoselectivity of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions of benzyl azide, diazomethane, a nitrile oxide and a nitrile imine to α-methylidene-γ-lactone dipolarophile was effectively controlled by a bulky γ-substituent, 4-methyl-2,6,7-trioxabicyclo[2.2.2]octan-1-yl in γ-position of the dipolarophile. The dipoles added from the less hindered face of the double bond with an excellent selectivity. Enantiomerically pure dipolarophile was prepared from the easily available (S)-5-oxotetrahydrohydrofuran-2-carboxylic acid.

AbstractA new metal-organic framework, [Pb(hmpcaH)2]n (1), has been hydrothermally synthesized from Pb(OAc)2 · 3H2O and 2-hydroxy-6-methylpyridine-4-carboxylic acid (hmpcaH2; 2), and characterized by IR spectroscopy, elemental and thermogravimetric analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In complex 1, each hmpcaH− ligand represents a three-connected node to combine with the hexacoordinated Pb(II) ions, generating a 3D binodal (3,6)-connected ant network. The crystal structure of 2 was determined. The solid-state fluorescence properties of 1 and 2 were investigated.

The europium (III) complex of coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (C3CA) has been prepared and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, and emission (photoluminescence and electrochemiluminescence) spectroscopy. The synthesised complex having a formula Eu was photophysically characterized in solution and in the solid state. Electrochemiluminescence, ECL, of the system containing the Eu(III)/C3CA complex was studied using an oxide-covered aluminium electrode. The goal of these studies was to show the possibility of the use of electrochemical excitation of the Eu(III) ion in aqueous solution for emission generation. The generated ECL emission was very weak, and therefore its measurements and spectral analysis were carried out with the use of cut-off filters method. The studies proved a predominate role of the ligand-to-metal energy transfer (LMET) in the generated ECL.

N-Methylated amides (N,4-dimethylbenzamide and N-methylcyclohexanecarboxamide) were systematically subjected to chemical transformations, namely, N-tosylation followed by nucleophilic substitution. The amide function was converted to the corresponding carboxylic acid, esters, amides, aldehyde, and ketone upon treatment with hydroxide, alkoxide, amine, diisobutylaluminium hydride and Grignard reagent, respectively. In these transformations, N-methyl-N-tosylcarboxamides behave like a Weinreb amide. Similarly, N-methyl-5-phenylisoxazole-3-carboxamide was converted into 3-functionalized isoxazole derivatives. Since the amide was prepared by the cycloaddition reaction of ethynylbenzene and N-methylcarbamoylnitrile oxide, the nitrile oxide served as the equivalent of the nitrile oxides bearing a variety of functional groups such as carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, carbamoyl, acyl and formyl moieties.

The title compound, C14H22O4S, was synthesized as a precursor for intramolecular Diels–Alder cycloaddition reactions. The (E)-buta-1,3-dienyl and methacrylate ester systems adopt an s–trans conformation in the solid state, with the two π units in both cases being almost coplanar.
