In this work, binary metal oxide porous nanorods are synthesized and exhibit evidently small overpotentials for OER and HER. They also display remarkable stability by holding a current density of ±200 mA cm−2 for 85 h for OER/HER.

Hierarchical Fe-doped Ni3Se4 ultrathin nanosheets are synthesized via solvothermal synthesis and a topotactic selenization process. The prepared (Ni,Fe)3Se4 ultrathin nanosheets supported on Ni foam needed an overpotential of only 225 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2 and a small Tafel slope of about 41 mV dec−1.

Cu2Se–Cu2O/TF electrode prepared via a simple and fast cathodic electrodeposition method. The electrode achieved a catalytic current density of 10 mA cm−2 for the OER at relatively low overpotential of 465 mV in 0.2 M carbonate buffer (pH = 11.0) and displayed a high durability over 20 h.

A hierarchical porous Fe3O4/Co3S4 nanosheet composite was synthesized and it needed an overpotential of only 270 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm−2 and afforded a small Tafel slope of about 56 mV dec−1.
