An Fe–N-doped carbon nanoparticle–carbon nanofiber (Fe–N-CNP–CNF) composite was prepared by a solution plasma process followed by heat treatment. The Fe–N-CNP–CNF exhibits excellent catalytic activity, durability and methanol tolerance for the ORR.

A series of three-dimensional N-doped hierarchical macro- and meso-porous carbon monoliths (NCMs), which were prepared successfully using a facile nanocasting strategy in combination with pyrolysis in NH3, showed comparable catalytic activity but superior durability and methanol tolerance to Pt/C for the oxygen reduction reaction.

Nitrogen-doped porous activated carbon (PAC) has been fabricated via a facile heat-treatment and chemical activation of cocoon silk. The prepared PAC exhibits excellent ORR catalytic activity.

A feasible strategy was explored to achieve atomically dispersed Fe–Nx sites anchoring on porous carbon hybrid (Fe-SA/PC). The catalyst possessed excellent catalytic activity, high stability and methanol-tolerance toward ORR in alkaline solution.
