Abstract In this paper, the effects of inner core radius, shell thickness, the dielectric function of middle nanoshell and surrounding medium on localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) of gold-dielectric-silver nanotube are studied based on the quasi-static approximation. Theoretical calculation results show that LSPR of gold-dielectric-silver nanotube and LSPR numbers can be well optimized by tuning the geometrical parameters. The longer wavelength of |ω−⟩ mode takes place a distinct red-shift with an increase in the inner core radius and the thickness of middle dielectric layer, while a blue-shift with increasing outer shell thickness. The physical mechanisms are investigated based on induced charges, plasmon hybridization theory and phase retardation. In addition, the effect of middle dielectric function and surrounding medium on LSPR , the local electric field distribution are also reported. Our study provides a way to analyze and broaden the applications of gold-dielectric-silver nanotube.

For a sinusoidal alternating current (AC) external field of finite frequency ω , the local electric field distribution at all harmonics has been investigated by graded cylindrical composites with power-law gradient inclusions. In the dilute limit, the obtained results show that the local electrical field distribution in the cylindrical inclusion region is controllable and the electric field peak’s position inside the cylindrical composites can be confined at its centre by varying the parameters of the graded dielectric profiles.

Dielectrophoresis (DEP) has been verified to be an efficient means of assembling carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for various applications. This paper simulates the electric field distribution of the quadruple electrode structure when the external AC voltage is applied between a pair of opposite electrodes. There exist induced electric potentials between high voltage electrodes and floating electrodes and thus floating electrodes seriously change the field distribution. For a pair of wide parallel electrodes, the deposition of one CNT bridging the electrode pair will greatly alter the local electric field and repel the further deposition of CNTs in the vicinity. The screening distance is relevant with the width of the electrode gap, which provides a way to estimate the density of assembled CNTs between the electrode pair.

Electrochemotherapy is an effective antitumor treatment employing locally applied high voltage electric pulses delivered through conductive electrodes to the tumor in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs. The efficiency of electrochemotherapy strongly depends on the local electric field distribution inside the target tissue. For successful therapy the entire target tissue has to be exposed to the local electric field strength above the reversible threshold. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the influence of the contact surface between electrode and treated tissue on the coverage of the tumor tissue by sufficiently high local electric field. The electric field distribution is calculated by means of numerical modeling using finite element method. Numerical results are confirmed with in vivo experiments. We demonstrated that the placement of electrodes giving larger electrode-tissue contact surface leads to improved electrochemotherapy outcome. Our results provide guidance on electrochemotherapy for treatment of protruding cutaneous tumors using parallel plate electrodes.
