AbstractThis study explores tweets from Oct 2008 to Oct 2018 related to halal tourism. The tweets were extracted from twitter and underwent various cleaning processes. A total of 33,880 tweets were used for analysis. Analysis intended to (1) identify the topics users tweet about regarding halal tourism, and (2) analyze the emotion-based sentiment of the tweets. To identify and analyze the topics, the study used a word list, concordance graphs, semantic network analysis, and topic-modeling approaches. The NRC emotion lexicon was used to examine the sentiment of the tweets. The analysis illustrated that the word “halal” occurred in the highest number of tweets and was primarily associated with the words “food” and “hotel”. It was also observed that non-Muslim countries such as Japan and Thailand appear to be popular as halal tourist destinations. Sentiment analysis found that there were more positive than negative sentiments among the tweets. The findings have shown that halal tourism is a global market and not only restricted to Muslim countries. Thus, industry players should take the opportunity to use social media to their advantage to promote their halal tourism packages as it is an effective method of communication in this decade.

Domain terminologies are a basic resource for various natural language processing tasks. To automatically discover terminologies for a domain of interest, most traditional approaches mostly rely on a domain-specific corpus given in advance; thus, the performance of traditional approaches can only be guaranteed when collecting a high-quality domain-specific corpus, which requires extensive human involvement and domain expertise. In this article, we propose a novel approach that is capable of automatically mining domain terminologies using search engine's query log—a type of domain-independent corpus of higher availability, coverage, and timeliness than a manually collected domain-specific corpus. In particular, we represent query log as a heterogeneous network and formulate the task of mining domain terminology as transductive learning on the heterogeneous network. In the proposed approach, the manifold structure of domain-specificity inherent in query log is captured by using a novel network embedding algorithm and further exploited to reduce the need for the manual annotation efforts for domain terminology classification. We select Agriculture and Healthcare as the target domains and experiment using a real query log from a commercial search engine. Experimental results show that the proposed approach outperforms several state-of-the-art approaches.

One of the most important aspects of social network analysis is community detection, which is used to categorize related individuals in a social network into groups or communities. The approach is quite similar to graph partitioning, and in fact, most detection algorithms rely on concepts from graph theory and sociology. The aim of this chapter is to aid a novice in the field of community detection by providing a wider perspective on some of the different detection algorithms available, including the more recent developments in this field. Five popular algorithms have been studied and explained, and a recent novel approach that was proposed by the authors has also been included. The chapter concludes by highlighting areas suitable for further research, specifically targeting overlapping community detection algorithms.
