Computing is increasingly intertwined with our physical world. From smart watches to connected cars, to the Internet of Things and 3D-printing, the trend towards combining digital and analogue materials in design is no longer an exception, but a hallmark for where interaction design is going in general. Computational processing increasingly involves physical materials, computing is increasingly manifested and expressed in physical form, and interaction with these new forms of computing is increasingly mediated via physical materials. Interaction Design is therefore increasingly a material concern. – Welcome to a book on the materiality of interaction, welcome to a book on material-centered interaction design! In this introduction to this book, “The Materiality of Interaction – Notes on the Materials of Interaction Design”, I describe the contemporary trend in interaction design towards material interactions, I describe how interaction design is increasingly about materials, and I propose “Material-centered interaction design” as a method for working with materials in interaction design projects.

More and more people pay attention to the printing speed and quality of 3D printing tools. In order to understand whether the 3D printing rehabilitation brace can play a role in the treatment and repair of joint trauma, we used 3D printing technology to print the rehabilitation brace and compared with the traditional rehabilitation brace. The printed parts were analyzed in detail. The experimental results prove that the rehabilitation braces made by the two methods can play a role in the repair of joint trauma. However, 3D printed rehabilitation braces can better meet the needs of patients with detailed patient data in application. The braces are more suitable, and their production speed is about 35% faster than traditional methods. Through the survey of patients and doctors, it is found that the satisfaction of patients and doctors with printed braces is above 89%, while the satisfaction with traditionally made braces is only about 60%. This shows that the rehabilitation brace based on the Internet of Things 3D printing technology has a more significant role in the treatment and repair of joint trauma, and the effect is better.

With the advancement of the technologies of the internet of things (IoT), we are witnessing great advances in the areas of analytics, sensors, platforms, 3D printing, and mobile. At the same time and unrelated, we are also witnessing a growing increase in the decreasing health and wellness of people in minority communities especially with regard to increase in chronic conditions such as diabetes and obesity. Thus, there exists an opportunity to leverage these IoT technologies to try to support better minority health and wellness. This chapter explores this opportunity.

Purpose This study aims to contribute and enrich the scientific debate about the phenomenon called the Internet of Things (IoT) from a managerial perspective. Through the lenses of management and innovation literature, we investigate the main facts that characterize the IoT and developed a conceptual framework to interpret its evolution. The framework has then been applied to the case of a three-dimensional (3D) printing technology used for additive manufacturing. Design/methodology/approach A theoretical analysis of the phenomenon of the IoT and its main elements has been performed to construct a conceptual framework in a managerial fashion able to describe the evolutionary impacts of the phenomenon on the manufacturing industry. Findings Through consequential steps, namely radical, modular, architectural and incremental innovation, and by adopting and integrating the Henderson and Clark model, we explain the cornerstones of the evolutionary impact of the IoT on the manufacturing industry. Finally, we apply our framework to the case of additive manufacturing and 3D printing. Practical implications Our framework’s practical value is related to its employability in interpreting and possibly forecasting the evolution of manufacturing industries thanks to the advent of the IoT, allowing managers to capture value arising from technological changes. Originality/value This study offers a clear and simple model to interpret the impacts of the IoT. Such a goal has been obtained by systematizing the disconnected research on the topic and arranging such contributions into solid paradigms of the managerial literature.

Based on the Internet of things, this paper brings forwards the general design framework of the system construction and analyzes its functions. We make the construction figure with the media of RFID, sensor and two-dimensional bar code, propose four aspects to construct intelligent campus mobile service applications and make functional planning to mobile educational administration, mobile library, mobile office, mobile admissions and five mobile service centers.
