Reactive power compensation is an important issue in electric power systems, involving operational, economical and quality of service aspects. Consumer loads (residential, industrial, service sector, etc.) impose active and reactive power demand, depending on their characteristics. This paper presents an efficient method for solving the load flow problem in distribution systems and which is implemented for Pune city (India) to check the validity of proposed method. A simple algebraic matrix equation to solve the load flow problem is derived by using the complex power balance equations. By adopting the rectangular coordinate, which requires the neglect of only second order terms in the linearization procedure, the proposed method gives better convergence characteristics. Newton-Raphsonmethod is the famous load flow calculation technique, and normally used dueto its rapidness of numerical convergence. The proposed method estimates the incremental changesof active power on each generation bus with respect to the total system power loss, efficiency and the estimated value are used to update the slack bus power.

This chapter discusses the participatory flair of transmedia journalism within the concreteness of urban spaces by examining The Great British Property Scandal (TGBPS), a transmedia experience designed to inform and engage the public and offer alternative solutions to the long-standing housing crisis in the United Kingdom. The theoretical framework is centered on transmedia storytelling applied to journalism in the scope of urban spaces and participatory culture. The methodological approach of the case study is based on Gambarato's (2013) transmedia analytical model and applied to TGBPS to depict how transmedia strategies within urban spaces collaborated to influence social change. TGBPS is a pertinent example of transmedia journalism within the liquid society, integrating mobile technologies into daily processes with the potential for enhanced localness, customization, and mobility within the urban fabric.

AbstractThis case study deals with a redesign effort to face the overcrowding issue in an Emergency Department (ED). A multidiscinary group of healthcare professionals and engineers worked together to improve the actual processes. We integrate the simulation modeling in a human-centered design method. We use the simulation technique as a learning and experimentation tool into a design thinking process: the computational descrete event simulation helps explore the possibile scenarios to be prototyped. We used the simulation to create a virtual prototyping environment, to help the group start a safe ideation and prototyping effort. Virtual prototyping injected into the organizational context the possibility of experimenting. It represented a cognitive low-risk environment where professionals could explore possible alternative solutions. Upon those solutions, we developed organizational prototyping tools. Top management and head physicians gained confidence for a more grounded decision making effort and important choices of change management and investments have been made.
