To meet the more strict discharging standard, some combined processes have emerged to realize denitrification and phosphorus removal of wastewater more efficiently. Among them, AAO-BAF combined process was an efficient one. The AAO-BAF system was composed of AAO reactor and BAF. The AAO process was the main unit to complete phosphorus removal and denitrification. The BAF process, external nitrification unit, was mainly used to provide enough electron acceptor for denitrifying bacteria in AAO reactor, which could enhance the efficiency of denitrification of the whole system. So the system optimizing was essential to AAO-BAF combined process. In this paper, the research progress of AAO-BAF wastewater treatment system was summarized and some system optimizing methods were raised too.

This paper used A/O-MBR wastewater treatment system, which was the combination of membrane technology and the A/O treatment process, which took experiments on the campus sewage, the study was made on the influence of phosphorus removal effect and membrane fouling by adding aluminum salt to the system. The result implied that the phosphorus removal effect of the system was improved significantly after adding aluminum salt. Observation was also taken on when TMP reached the limit value in A/O-MBR system and Al2(SO4)3-A/O-MBR system respectively, which showed that the stable operation time of the reactor that added Al2(SO4)3 was longer.

In this paper, a feasible municipal wastewater treatment process, using the upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) or the anaerobic baffled reactor (ABR) as an anaerobic pre-treatment system, and the reed bed or the stabilization pond with supporting media as a post-treatment system, is presented and discussed. Results obtained in pilot- and full-scale treatment plants clearly reveal that the anaerobic treatment is indeed a very attractive option for municipal wastewater pre-treatment at temperatures exceeding 20C in tropical and subtropical regions. The UASB system has been commonly employed as an anaerobic pre-treatment system. The ABR provides another potential for the anaerobic pre-treatment. The effluents from the anaerobic treatment system should be post-treated to meet discharge standards. Because of the advantages of the reed bed system when it is employed for tertiary treatment, this system could be considered as a post-treatment system. Another cost-effective system, the stabilization pond packed with attached-growth media, is also a potential post-treatment system.

To make full use of existing facilities , process reconstruction line is proposed including three precipitation, floatation and biological treatment after the analysis of the problems in existing treatment process of the paper-making wasterwater, The results showed that: after the reconstructive wastewater treatment system, the quality of effluent has reached the secondary standard of Integrated Wastewater Discharge Standard (GB8978-96).
