Fetal lupus with severe anemia and pancytopenia due to maternal lupus erythematodes treated with cordocentesis – a case report

Babesiosis is one of the protozoan zoonotic diseases its presentation rang from asymptomatic to severe clinical conditions, with severe hemolysis. Immune status of the host and the species of the parasite has impact on the clinical presentations of the infected patient our patient is presented here; the patient was admitted from a countryside with severe anemia and a deterioration in his general condition, he was admitted to intense care unit and received blood transfusion, in addition to antimicrobial treatment in form of azithromycin and Ceftriaxon, his condition improve and released from ICU on the second day and discharge from hospital after improvement on the seventh day.

Avian Polyomavirus

An adult Blue Fronted Amazon parrot (A. aestiva) presenting with emesis, apathy, undigested seed in feces, and severe anemia was treated for approximately 2 months. Upon radiographic examination, an enlarged kidney was the only alteration. PCR for avianBornavirus,Circovirus, and Polyomavirus was performed for the feces and blood. The results were positive for APV in both samples and negative for the other viruses. After 6 months, the feces from the same animal were negative for APV. Because the animal was positive for APV in both the feces and the blood, it is likely that these clinical symptoms were due to Polyomavirus infection. Severe anemia is an unusual clinical sign of Polyomavirus, and this study aims to identify novel differential diagnostic criteria for the disease.

A four-year-old, spayed female toy fox terrier presented with hyperglycemia and severe anemia. A diagnosis of immune-mediated diabetes mellitus was made based upon the finding of beta-cell specific antibodies. Immune-mediated hemolytic anemia was diagnosed based on findings of a regenerative anemia, spherocytosis, hyperbilirubinemia, hemoglobinuria, and bilirubinuria. The anemia resolved following two months of immunosuppressive therapy. The diabetes was treated with insulin for four months, after which time treatment was no longer necessary. However, the dog remained positive for beta-cell antibodies which may be a predictive marker for the recurrence of diabetes mellitus in the future.

A seven-month-old, intact female Jack Russell terrier was presented with a history of recurrent hemorrhage originating in the oral cavity. The puppy had a severe anemia and a lingual hemangioma. Several blood transfusions and two separate surgical procedures were necessary to control the problem. The first surgery was a resection of almost 50% of the tongue lengthwise. A similar intervention was performed two months later. A literary review of lingual tumors in animals and in humans is presented.
