An Efficient and Simple One-Pot Synthesis of ?-Acetamido Ketones Catalyzed by Ytterbium Triflate in Ionic Liquid

Ytterbium triflate immobilized in the ionic liquid [bmim][BF4] catalyzes the three-component coupling of aromatic aldehydes, enolizable ketones, and acetonitrile in the presence of acetyl chloride at room temperature to afford β-acetamido ketones in good yields. The catalyst can be recovered and recycled for subsequent reactions without any appreciable loss of efficiency.

A series of 12-aryl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen-11-one derivatives were synthesized via the three-component coupling from aromatic aldehydes, 2-naphthol and 5,5–dimethylcyclohexane -1,3-dione catalyzed by NaHSO4 in ionic liquid, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([BMIM]BF4). The reaction proceeded with good yields under short reaction time. The NaHSO4 was not expensive and the ionic liquid could be reused. The proposed method is efficient and environmentally friendly.

A catalytic amount of pTSA has been found to be effective to carry out a one-pot three-component coupling of aromatic aldehydes, enolizable ketones or ketoesters, and acetonitrile in the presence of acetyl chloride to afford β-acetamidoketones in high yields. Short reaction times and inexpensive catalyst are main advantages of this protocol.Key words: β-acetamidoketone, pTSA, multicomponent reaction, diastereoselectivity.

A direct, one pot synthesis of an ellagic acid salt was achieved at room temperature by dimerization of ethyl gallate using N,N-dimethylammonium N′,N′-dimethylcarbamate, a distillable ionic liquid, as solvent.

A novel and efficient three-component one-pot synthesis of benzo[b]1,8-naphthyridines by 2-amino-4-methylquinoline, aromatic aldehydes, and malononitrile was done. The reaction was catalyzed by an acidic Bismuth(III) chloride, functionalized Bismuth(III) chloride, at room temperature to give various benzo[b]1,8-naphthyridines in high yields. The Bismuth(III) chloride is an environmentally friendly catalyst.
