A new iodate Er(IO3)3·2H2O was synthesized under mild hydrothermal conditions. The structure has been confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis. It crystallizes in the triclinic system with space group P-1 (No.2), a = 7.338(4) Å, b = 7.506(4) Å, c = 9.409(5) Å, α = 79.698(5)°, β = 85.245(4)°, γ = 71.934(4)°, V = 484.5(5) Å3, Z = 2. Some characterizations were performed such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric–differential scanning calorimetry (TG-DSC) analysis, luminescence spectroscopy, and magnetic property measurements. The overall framework of Er(IO3)3·2H2O is based on one-dimensional chains. The adjacent chains are further linked with each other by hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional supramolecular network. The luminescent and magnetic properties of Er(IO3)3·2H2O were studied.

A new tetrazole–metal supramolecular compound, di-μ-chlorido-bis(trichlorido{1-[(1H-tetrazol-5-yl-κN2)methyl]-1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane}cadmium(II)), [Cd2(C8H16N6)2Cl8], has been synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In the structure, each CdIIcation is coordinated by five Cl atoms (two bridging and three terminal) and by one N atom from the 1-[(1H-tetrazol-5-yl)methyl]-1,4-diazoniabicyclo[2.2.2]octane ligand, adopting a slightly distorted octahedral coordination geometry. The bridging bicyclo[2.2.2]octane and chloride ligands link the CdIIcations into one-dimensional ribbon-like N—H...Cl hydrogen-bonded chains along thebaxis. An extensive hydrogen-bonding network formed by N—H...Cl and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds, and interchain π–π stacking interactions between adjacent tetrazole rings, consolidate the crystal packing, linking the poymeric chains into a three-dimensional supramolecular network.

Compounds 1–3 possess one-dimensional loop chains with Ln2(COO)2 units, which are extended into three-dimensional (3D) supramolecular structures by π–π interactions. Isostructural compounds 5 and 6 show 6-connected 3D networks, with pcu topology consisting of Ln2(COO)2 units. Compounds 7–10 display 8-connected 3D frameworks with the topological type rob, consisting of Ln2(COO)2 units. The influence of the coordination orientations of the aromatic dicarboxylate groups on the crystal structures is discussed.

Hydrothermal reaction of Zn(NO3)2·6H2O with 2,2´,3,3´-oxydiphthalic acid (H4odpa) and pyridine (py) at 120 °C yielded a one-dimensional metal-organic coordination polymer {[Zn2(2,2´,3,3´- odpa)(py)3(H2O)]·H2O}n (1), which is further connected together through hydrogen bonds, π· · ·π and C−H· · ·π interactions to give a three-dimensional supramolecular network. The thermal stability of complex 1 was studied by thermal gravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA). Compound 1 exhibits photoluminescence with an emission maximum at ca. 430 nm upon excitation at 350 nm.

A new organic/inorganic salt formed by mixed-valence dibenzotetrathiafulvalene (DBTTF) radical cations and the spherical Keggin-type polyoxometalate anions [H3BW12O40]2− was obtained by electrochemical oxidation of the donor in an acetonitrile and a 1,2-dichloroethane solution containing the polyanion. The compound has been characterized by X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, EPR, IR and Raman spectroscopy. X-Ray diffraction experiments have revealed that the compound consists of heteropolyanions, water molecules and DBTTF radical cations. The organic radicals form trimers and dimers via π-π stacking; moreover, the polyoxoanions and the organic donors are also held together by hydrogen bonding interactions. In their packing arrangement, a three-dimensional supramolecular network with one-dimensional channels along the b axis is established with uncoordinated water molecules residing in the channels.

A novel helical-chain coordination polymer [Co(tau)2(4,4′-bipy)]n·nH2O 1 (tau = taurine, 4,4′-bipy = 4,4′-bipyridine) has been hydrothermally synthesized and characterized by infrared spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, magnetic measurements, solid-state CD spectra and single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The intertwist trigonal-fold helical chains are further connected through hydrogen bonds to give a three-dimensional supramolecular network, in which trigonal microporous channels filled with water guest molecules exist within the polymer coils. Compound 1 shows weak antiferromagnetic interactions among metal ions.

A chiral two-dimensional (2D) coordination polymer {[Zn(cmmb)(1,4-bbi)]·H2O}n (1) has been synthesized by a hydrothermal reaction of Zn(NO3)2·6H2O with 4- (carboxymethoxy)-2-methylbenzoic acid (H2cmmb) and 1,1`-(1,4-butanediyl)bis(imidazole) (1,4-bbi). It has been characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray crystallography, IR spectroscopy and thermogravimetry, and also by its fluorescence properties. The metal-organic layer of the complex is held together with its neighbors via C-H···O hydrogen bonds to give rise to a chiral three-dimensional supramolecular network.

Two new metal coordination complexes, namely, poly[aqua(μ6-benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid-κ8 O 1:O 1,O 2:O 2′:O 4:O 4,O 5:O 5′)(μ-but-2-enedioato-κ2 O 1:O 4)potassium(I)], [K2(C4H2O4)(C10H6O8)(H2O)2] n or [K2(fum)(H4btec)(H2O)2] n , (1), and poly[aqua(μ8-2,5-dicarboxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylato-κ12 O 1:O 1′,O 2:O 2,O 2′:O 2′:O 4:O 4′,O 5:O 5,O 5′:O 5′)(μ-ethanedioato-κ4 O 1,O 2:O 1′,O 2′)strontium(II)], [Sr2(C2O4)(C10H4O8)(H2O)2] n or [Sr2(ox)(H2btec)(H2O)2] n , (2) (H4btec = benzene-1,2,4,5-tetracarboxylic acid, H2btec = 2,5-dicarboxybenzene-1,4-dicarboxylate, fum = fumarate and ox = oxalate), have been obtained under hydrothermal conditions by reacting the different alkali and alkaline earth metal salts with H4btec, fumaric acid (H2fum) and oxalic acid (H2ox). Complexes (1) and (2) were structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) and thermogravimetic analysis–differential scanning calorimetry (TGA–DSC). Complex (1) displays a two-dimensional (2D) layer with the K+ ion in a distorted pentagonal bipyramidal geometry and exhibits a uninodal 6-connected hxl/Shubnikov plane net (3,6) with {36.46.53} topology. Complex (2) displays a three-dimensional (3D) network structure, in which the Sr2+ ion is in a distorted monocapped square antiprism geometry. The framework possess a binodal (5,8)-connected net with the Schläfli symbol {32.410.58.64.74}{32.46.52}2. The 3D Hirshfeld surfaces and 2D fingerprint plots show that the main interactions are the O...H/H...O intermolecular interactions. Moreover, the thermal decompositions of (1) and (2) in the temperature range 303–1273 K revealed that they both decompose in three steps and transform to the corresponding metal oxide.
