On the basis of the competitive reaction of nitrous acid with hydrogen peroxide in nitric acid medium the rate constant of the reaction of 4- aminobenzenesulphonamide with nitrous acid has been determined to be 6.4 l2 mol-2 s-1 at 22C and has been found to be independent of nitric acid concentration in the range 0.5-2M.

AbstractThis paper reports volatilization behavior of RuO4 from nitric acid medium using UV–Vis spectroscopy. Ruthenium (III) solution was oxidized to Ru (VIII) using potassium metaperiodate. The absorption peak of RuO4 at 385 nm was used to measure Ru(VIII) concentration in solution. The volatilization kinetics has been studied at different temperature and used to derive rate constant and activation energy values. Almost 82% Ruthenium (VIII) has been volatilized from nitric acid medium at 70 °C whereas it is only 15% at 25 °C. Effect of different parameters like temperature, potassium metaperiodate concentration and nitric acid concentration on volatilization has been studied in depth and reported in this paper.

SummaryA number of structurally related new unsymmetrical monoamides with different substituting groups, N-methyl-N-decyloctylamide (MDOA), N-methyl-N-decyldecanamide (MDDA), and N-methyl-N-decyldodecanamide (MDDOA), were synthesized. The extraction of U(VI) from nitric acid medium by the synthesized monoamides diluted with toluene was investigated. The effect of nitric acid concentration, sodium nitrate concentration, extractant concentration and temperature on the distribution ratio was studied. The stoichiometry of the main extracted species confirms to UO

AbstractThe extraction behaviour of Am(III) and Eu(III) from nitric acid medium was studied in the solvent impregnated resins containing extractants such as tetra-bis(2-ethylhexyl)diglycolamide (TEHDGA) or bis-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP) or mixture of TEHDGA+HDEHP. The rate of extraction of Am(III) and Eu(III) from 1 M nitric acid and the effect of various parameters, such as the concentration of nitric acid in aqueous phase and concentration of TEHDGA and HDEHP in resin phase, on the distribution coefficient of Am(III) and Eu(III) was studied. The distribution coefficient of Am(III) and Eu(III) in HDEHP-impregnated resin decreased and that in TEHDGA-impregnated resin increased, with increase in the concentration of nitric acid. However, in (TEHDGA+HDEHP) – impregnated resin, synergic extraction was observed at lower nitric acid concentration and antagonism at higher nitric acid concentration. The mechanism of Am(III) and Eu(III) extraction in the combined resin was investigated by slope analysis method. The extraction of various metal ions present in the fast reactor simulated high-level liquid waste was studied. The separation factor of Am(III) over Eu(III) was studied using citrate-buffered diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (DTPA) solution.

SummaryThree new quinoline derivatives were synthesised and characterized. These compounds were found to be insoluble in water and different acids such as HNOThe effects of shaking time, nitric acid concentration, metal ion concentration and the concentration of extractant were studied. The results showed that the distribution ratio of Ag decreased with increase in the nitric acid and metal concentration, and increased by increasing the extractant concentration. It was found that an equilibrium time of 10 min was required to reach equilibrium. The results showed that (MDTQ) is very selective for the separation of Ag.

Reduction of plutonium (VI) to Pu(IV) with hydrogen peroxide is a step in industrial processes used to purify plutonium nitrate solutions. This operation must be carefully controlled, in order to avoid any formation of the Pu(IV) peroxide green precipitate and to obtain exclusively Pu(IV). This led us to study the acidity and Pu and HWith the exception of 0.5 M nitric acid medium, the kinetic curves show two distinct regims: the first one corresponds to an induction period where the Pu(VI) concentration doesn´t change, the second corresponds to a linear decrease of Pu(VI). An increase of the temperature greatly accelerates the Pu(VI) reduction rate while [H
