Vector measurements of the geomagnetic field have been made in the South Indian Ocean since 1988 when a Shipboard Three Component Magnetometer (STCM) was installed on board the icebreaker Shirase by the 30th Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE-30). Twelve constants related to the ship's induced and permanent magnetic field were determined by the data obtained from the JARE-30 to the JARE-35. The constants related to the ship's magnetic susceptibility distribution are almost stable throughout the cruise and mostly depend on the ship's shape. On the other hand, the constants related to the ship's permanent magnetization are variable. However, absolute values of total intensity geomagnetic field calculated from vector geomagnetic field is possible to use, if the constraints from total intensity geomagnetic field measured by the proton magnetometer and/or satellite derived magnetic anomalies are applied.

Currently, quite a large variety of magnetic therapy products, including magnetic dosage forms (MDF), is used in medicine. MDF contain different magnetic materials. MDF either contain or do not contain medicinal substances (MS) in their composition. The therapeutic action of MDF is produced by either a biotropic effect of magnetic field (MF) in case MDF is a source of permanent magnetic field, or mechanic action of MDF based on their interaction with an external source of MF, or a combination of the biotropic and mechanic actions. MDF used in medicine have been reviewed, and their classification by magnetic filler type has been provided.

Certain stars are known to be periodic magnetic variables, and to show synchronous changes in line strength and radial velocity. The hypothesis has been made that the atmosphere of such a star is in rigid rotation, and that it is characterized by a permanent magnetic field and associated abundance irregularities. The magnetic potential and the local equivalent widths have been developed in spherical harmonics, and the Laplace coefficients of these expansions have been related to the Fourier coefficients of the observed curves. The theory has been applied to the star HD 125248 in an attempt to verify the original hypothesis and to map the magnetic fields and abundance anomalies over the stellar atmospheres.

AbstractIt is shown that the Moon possesses an extraordinary response to induction from the solar wind due to a combination of a high interior electrical conductivity together with a relatively resistive crustal layer into which the solar wind dynamic pressure forces back the induced field. The dark side response, devoid of solar wind pressure, is approximately that expected for the vacuum case. These data permit an assessment of the interior conductivity and an estimate of the thermal gradient in the crustal region. The discovery of a large permanent magnetic field at the Apollo 12 site corresponds approximately to the paleomagnetic residues discovered in both Apollo 11 and 12 rock samples The implications regarding an early lunar magnetic field are discussed and it is shown that among the various conjectures regarding the early field the most prominent are either an interior dynamo or an early approach to the Earth though no extant model is free of difficulties.
