Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari karakter fisiologi isolat B. bassiana yang berasal dari berbagai inang dan virulensinya terhadap Spodoptera litura. Lima isolat B. bassiana yang diuji diisolasi dari hama Leptocorisa oratorius (F.) dan Hypothenemus hampei (Ferr.), rizosfer tanaman bawang daun buah kakao dan batang gandum. Karakter fisiologi yang diamati adalah daya kecambah konidia, pertumbuhan koloni, dan sporulasi, Cendawan diperbanyak pada media SDAY dan uji virulensi dilakukan terhadap larva instar II S. litura. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa daya kecambah konidia, pertumbuhan koloni dan sporulasi bervariasi antar isolat. Isolat B. bassiana yang diisolasi dari L. oratorius dan buah kakao memiliki karakter fisiologi yang lebih baik dibandingkan dengan isolat lain. Kedua isolat ini juga lebih virulen terhadap larva instar II S. litura dengan mortalitas sebesar 80 – 81,67%.

Insecticidal activity of culture filtrates from liquid medium of Beauveria bassiana isolates from South Sumatra (Indonesia) wetland soil against larvae of Spodoptera litura. Biodiversitas 20: 2101-2109. The obstacle in utilizing entomopathogenic fungi to control pest insects in wetlands is the inability of their isolates to survive during the saprophytic phase due to the soil being very acidic. Therefore, the exploration of fungi being able to survive in the acidic soil was utilized in the acidic ecosystem. This study aimed to test the toxic activity of Beauveria bassiana culture filtrates from liquid medium at pH 2.5 and 6 against Spodoptera litura larvae. Total of ten isolates collected from South Sumatra, Indonesia was grown in liquid media at pH of 2.5 and 6 for six weeks. The result showed that the culture filtrate from liquid medium at pH 6 was more toxic against the larvae than that at pH 2.5. The mortality of the larvae at pH 6 reached 92%, while that at pH 2.5 it reached 13.33% only. The findings of present study revealed that the culture filtrate isolates of BPdR, BJgTs, BSwTd2, BSwTd3, BSwTd4, BKKPp2 from pH 2.5 media still caused high larvae mortality (6.67-13.33%). These seven isolates are superior due to their toxic nature at pH 2.5. Consequently, present study has increased the chances of success in utilizing these isolates for biological control in acidic ecosystems, such as peatlands, tidal lowlands, and freshwater swamps.

Red chili is a horticultural crop that is widely cultivated commercially. The need for red chili is increasing, in accordance with the increasing variety of types of food that use red chili as a raw material. Pest attacks on red chili plants are an obstacle in red chili cultivation. Spodoptera litura is a red chili pest that can cause yield reductions of up to 80%. Control using the Riau local entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana is an effort to control S. litura using environmentally friendly materials. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of the Riau local entomopathogenic fungi B. bassiana to contol S. litura pests and the growth of red chili plants. The research was carried out at the Plant Pest Laboratory and Experimental Garden, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University from July to August 2020. This study was designed in a completely randomized design with five treatments, namely the concentration of Riau local Riau B. bassiana 20 gl-1 water, 25 gl-1 water, 30 gl-1 water, 35 gl-1 water and 40 gl-1 water and four replications to obtain 20 experimental units. The results showed that the concentration of Riau local B. bassiana 30 gl-1 of water containing a conidia density of 4.1 × 108 con.ml-1 was a concentration that affected S. litura pests and chili plant growth by causing the intensity of S. litura pests which could be categorized as lower at 4.15% and can cause a peak in larval death on the fourth day after application.

Kemampuan hidup konidia jamur Beauveria bassiana di filoplan tanaman diketahui tidak dapat bertahan aktif dalam waktu yang lama karena dipengaruhi oleh sinar matahari. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui persistensi konidia jamur B. bassiana di filoplan tanaman sawi dengan mengukur tingkat viabilitas dan virulensinya setelah dipaparkan sinar matahari. Percobaan dilakukan dengan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL). Perlakuan masing-masing aplikasi yaitu pemaparan isolat B. bassiana di filoplan sawi selama 0,3,6,9,12,24,48,72, dan 96 jam dengan empat kali ulangan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemaparan sinar matahari selama 96 jam menurunkan viabilitas konidia B. bassiana di filoplan sawi yaitu 75,82% dengan nilai waktu paruh 27,88 hari. Data virulensi konidia B. bassiana di filoplan sawi dilihat dari mortalitas dan rerata waktu kematian larva menunjukkan bahwa pemaparan sinar matahari selama 96 jam hanya mampu membunuh larva Spodoptera litura yaitu 7,50% dengan rerata waktu kematian 9,63 hari dan nilai waktu paruh 40,37 hari.
