Humans and nature interconnectedness is a dynamic process. The extensive misuse of natural resources has left us in an uncontrolled situation. Ecological disasters are worsening our relationship with nature. Humans’ anthropocentric attitude to dominate nature needed to be relooked from biocentric lenses. Rediscovering our interconnectedness with nature will advance our ecological consciousness to bring equilibrium between humans and nature. This paper intends to examine “Tintern Abbey”, the famous poetry by William Wordsworth to raise awareness of the interconnectedness of humans and nature in people’s minds, through deep ecological perspectives.

Resumen: Este trabajo ofrece un análisis de dos traducciones al español de sendos poemas del autor británico William Wordsworth publicadas en la segunda década del siglo XX, con el propósito de estudiar las repercusiones que el grado de reescritura ejercido por los traductores tuvo en la imagen del poeta y su obra que se transmitió a los lectores españoles de los años 20. Dada la naturaleza de este trabajo, el planteamiento metodológico que aquí se propone es multidisciplinar, enmarcado principalmente dentro de la Literatura Comparada, junto con herramientas y postulados estrechamente ligados a ésta, como los derivados de los Estudios de Recepción y los Estudios de Traducción. Title in English: “A Study on the Reception of the Translated Poetry of William Wordsworth in 1920s Spain: ‘Tintern Abbey’ and ‘Personal Talk’”Abstract: This article considers two Spanish translations of two poems by William Wordsworth, published in the second decade of the twentieth century. The central aim behind this examination is that of studying the impact that the degree of rewriting exercised by the translators had on the shaping of the image of the poet and his work that was conveyed to his Spanish readers during the 1920s. To this end, we propose an interdisciplinary approach chiefly grounded on Comparative Literature, along with some postulates and methodological tools closely linked to that discipline, including the ones derived from Reception Studies and Translation Studies.

A poesia de Wordsworth proporciona a sensação de que é possível curar sentimentos ruins por meio do processo de recordação, como acontece nos poemas “I wandered lonely as a cloud” e “Tintern Abbey”. Longe de negar tal função, este trabalho tem por objetivo apresentar, em contrapartida, a existência de uma tendência desestabilizadora, a qual poderá ser percebida a partir dos estudos de Aleida Assmann e Jacques Derrida sobre a recordação romântica, que leva em conta o papel das afecções, do esquecimento e da cronologia em sua constituição. Nesse contexto, ao tentar colocar-se no lugar de algo que não pode ser completamente recuperado, a recordação assume, segundo Assmann, uma função suplementar que, por definição, substitui apenas provisória e precariamente. A partir dessa discussão, será apresentada a evocação, por meio da memória, e reiteração sucessiva de uma mesma imagem no poema “Tintern Abbey”, que corroborará a hipótese que ora se apresenta.Palavras-chave: Memória Suplementar. This article examines the collaboration and ‘symbiosis’ of English poets Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth. It explains that this celebrated friendship involved intimate and creative gift exchange both in world view and in the craft of verse, and that two instances of this gift were Frost at Midnight and Tintern Abbey, two of the greatest poems of 1798. The article contends that the long-term outcome of this friendship was a weakening of each poet's confidence in his own voice.

Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862) and William Wordsworth (1770-1850) belong to two different sects. The former is a Transcendentalist or a member of American Romanticism with its unifying account of self and nature, and the latter is an English Romantic poet belonging to a group of poets called the "lake School [or] the lakers" (Ruston 90-91) who were involved in the appreciation of and dissolution in their natural surroundings. Despite the fact that these two figures have much in common, there are points and junctures where they diverge in their perspectives towards the essential grounds of their parallel philosophies. Through having a look at Thoreau's Walden and Wordsworth's Tintern Abbey, this paper would attempt to present a broad account of the major aspects in which their literary ideas and points of views approach or diverge in regards to nature and imagination.
