We report a case of adenomyoma of the small intestine arising in a Meckel diverticulum. The patient was a 22-month-old boy who presented with signs and symptoms of intussusception. At surgery, a Meckel diverticulum was found and removed. On histologic examination, a tumor consisting of dilated cystic glands and smooth muscle bundles was identified. A diagnosis of adenomyoma arising in a Meckel diverticulum was made. A review of the literature showed that only six other pediatric cases of adenomyoma of the small intestine have been reported. The presence of an adenomyoma in a young patient within a Meckel diverticulum favors the view that adenomyomas are a variant of pancreatic heterotopia.

Histiocytic sarcoma is very rare malignant neoplasm showing morphological and immunophenotypic characteristics of histiocyte. Morphologic diagnosis is challenging due to overlapping histologic features with diverse mimics. Histologic diagnosis is confirmed by expression of one or more histiocytic markers, including CD163, CD68, and lysozyme. We present a bona fida case of extranodal histiocytic sarcoma involving the small intestine in a 67-year-old male. The diagnosis is confirmed by diffuse immunoreactivity of CD163, which is believed to be more specific histiocytic marker than CD68.

Xanthomas are localized nonneoplastic lesions within tissues that may manifest as papules, plaques, or nodules. These lesions can be found anywhere along the gastrointestinal tract, commonly in the stomach and colon, and rarely in the small intestine and esophagus. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) with biopsy is the gold standard tool for diagnosis. Here, we report a rare case of a lower solitary nodular esophageal xanthoma in an elderly black female. Correspondingly, all cases of esophageal xanthomas reported in the English medical literature were reviewed and presented with the reported case.
