Meckel's diverticulum, according to various statistics, is found in cases of celiac disease in approximately 0.1-1.0% of patients. PN Yurovskaya observed 14 cases of Meckel diverticulum among 1126 patients who underwent laparotomy. During gluttony, the specified diverticulum comes across not only as an accidental find, but often turns out to be the cause of catastrophes in the abdominal cavity: intestinal obstruction, peritonitis, intestinal bleeding, etc. T. AbstractIntestinal malrotation is a congenital anomaly caused by incomplete rotation or absence of rotation of the primitive intestine along the axis of the upper mesenteric artery during embryonic development. Embryonic development and its anatomical variations were described by Dott in 1923.Intestinal malrotation is a rare condition among adults – prevalent in a mere 0.0001% to 0.19% of the population –, and it may be associated with other anatomical deformities. It can be asymptomatic or manifest with varying intensity, from obstruction to necrosis of intestinal segments. In general, this abnormality is diagnosed in the first year of life; however, symptoms may appear later in life, making diagnosis in adults difficult on account of non-specific symptoms.In the present study, we report a case of intestinal malrotation associated with chronic non-specific symptoms progressing to mesenteric angina.

Abstract Background Meckel diverticulum is the most common congenital abnormality of the gastrointestinal tract. Gastrointestinal bleeding is the most common complication of Meckel diverticulum in the paediatric population; the bleeding mostly occurs in the first 2 years of life. Because the diverticulum is seldom seen in clinical practice, misdiagnosis and delayed diagnosis are not uncommon. CT and nuclear studies are the most used diagnostic tools in clinical practice. However, radiation and sensitivity concerns remain an issue. Ultrasound has been suggested as an alternative diagnostic tool in diagnosing Meckel diverticulum with mixed results. The aim of our study is to assess the value of using a new sonographic sign, the pseudogestational sac sign in diagnosing Meckel diverticulum in children presenting with bleeding per rectum. Ultrasound was performed for all children. Results were correlated with nuclear studies, histopathology and clinical follow-up findings. Results Seventy-three children were included in our study. The pseudogestational sac sign was present in 46 (63%) and absent in 27 (37%) cases. Forty-five children were ultimately diagnosed as Meckel diverticulum. The age ranged from 2 months to 9 years with a mean of 2.3 years. The boy-to-girl ratio was 4.6:1 with 60% of children presenting during their first 2 years of life. The ultrasound performance using the pseudogestational sac sign revealed a sensitivity of 91.1%, specificity of 82.1%, positive predictive value of 89.1%, negative predictive value of 85.2%, positive likelihood ratio of 5.1, negative likelihood ratio of 0.11 and accuracy of 87.7%. Conclusion The sonographic pseudogestational sac sign is a reliable diagnostic tool for diagnosing Meckel diverticulum in children presenting with bleeding per rectum. The sonographic diagnosis of Meckel diverticulum complies with the international standards of “Image Gently”.

Immune formations of birds' digestive organs, including the esophageal tonsil and Meckel’s diverticulum, protect the body from foreign antigens that enter the body with food and water and play an important role in maintaining the genetic constancy of its internal environment. This unique property of the immune system is formed during ontogenesis and is associated with maintaining the selection of lymphocyte clones that are able to respond to foreign antigens and carry out a specific immune response of two types: humoral and cellular. This article presents the results of a study of T- and B-lymphocyte subpopulations of the esophageal tonsil of Shever 579 cross chickens at the age of 25, 180 and 300 days, the Meckel diverticulum of the Blagovarsky cross ducks at the age of 30, 150 and 180 days. Immunohistochemical and statistical research methods were used to determine the localization and quantitative parameters of cell populations of lymphocytes (CD4+, CD8+, CD20+) using monoclonal antibodies and the DAKO EnVision FLEX+ imaging system (Dako Cytomation, Denmark). Separate subpopulations of T-lymphocytes (CD4+ - helpers, CD8+ -cytotoxic / T-suppressors) and mature B-lymphocytes (CD20+) were found in the esophageal tonsil and Meckel diverticulum of birds. Their presence confirms that antigen-independent proliferation and differentiation of lymphocytes into effector cells occur in the immune formations of the digestive system. The lymphoid tissue of these formations is represented mainly by a well-defined diffuse form and nodules with light centers (secondary). In the esophageal tonsil of chickens, these structures are located in the tunica mucosa and tela submucosa, and in the Meckel diverticulum of ducks – also in the tunica muscularis. The content of lymphocytes with these markers predominates in diffuse lymphoid tissue compared to that in secondary lymphoid nodules. In the diffuse lymphoid tissue of the esophageal tonsil, lymphocytes are located mainly near the adenomeres and excretory ducts of the esophageal glands, blood vessels, and under the surface epithelium, and in Meckel’s diverticulum – around the crypts, in their epithelium and in the epithelium of the villi. They are also found in the light centers of lymphoid nodules and on their periphery. The indices of the content of lymphocytes with the indicated markers in the esophageal tonsil and Meckel diverticulum which we determined were associated with age characteristics of the poultry in the postnatal period of ontogenesis. According to our observations, the content of CD20+ lymphocytes was the highest, while the populations of CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes were much smaller. This indicates an increase in the activity and predominance of the humoral immunity over the cellular one. The content of CD20+ lymphocytes was highest in birds at the age of 180 days, that is, during their sexual maturity. The data presented in the work can be used by morphologists researching the organs of the immune system, immunologists, poultry specialists involved in breeding, using and raising poultry and in educational work.

Background: Meckel diverticulum (MD) is the most common congenital anomaly of the intestines, with an incidence of 2% of the general population. It can present as various clinical features with complications and be life threatening if diagnosis is delayed and treatment late.Case Presentation: We report three pediatric cases with complicated MD: one female presented with small-bowel obstruction, one male with peritonitis, and one female with severe iron-deficiency anemia, without gross gastrointestinal bleeding nor any ectopic gastric mucosa. All patients underwent exploratory laparotomy, segmental small-bowel resection, and primary anastomosis. They successfully recovered and were uneventfully discharged on the fourth, seventh, and 10th postoperative days, respectively.Conclusions: MD can present with various complication spectrums, including small-bowel obstruction, peritonitis, and severe iron-deficiency anemia, which may cause difficulty in definitive diagnosis, particularly in children. Segmental small-bowel resection and primary anastomosis are effective surgical approaches and show good outcomes for MD patients.

The dynamics of topographic changes in the intestines of quails in terms of age has been investigated. For the study, quail of the day-old, 10-day-old and 30-day age of the Texas breed were selected. In the course of the study, it was found that with age, the intestines of quails increase in size, which is a determining factor in the topography of this organ in the abdominal cavity. It was also found that a Meckel diverticulum appears in the place of a rudimentary yolk sac in quails and an increased development of adipose tissue accumulations occurs.
