A 69-year-old man presented with a one-month history of a painful mass in the right breast. Pathologic evaluation of the excision of the mass revealed a proliferation of both glandular and stromal elements consistent with gynecomastia. In addition, histologic examination revealed peripheral nerves in the deep portion of the specimen were entrapped in the proliferative changes associated with gynecomastia. It is proposed that the expansile proliferation led to compressive pressure on the nerves and caused the pain associated with gynecomastia.

This study investigated whether interwoven self-expandable metallic stent (I-SEMS) placement suppresses stent-induced tissue hyperplasia compared with conventional knitted self-expandable metallic stent (K-SEMS) placement in a rat esophageal model. Twelve rats were randomly assigned to the I-SEMS (n = 6) and K-SEMS (n = 6) groups. All rats were sacrificed 4 weeks after the stent placement. The degree of stent-induced tissue hyperplasia on esophagography and histologic examination was compared between the groups. Stent placement was technically successful in all rats. Esophagography revealed significantly greater mean luminal diameter of the stented esophagus in the I-SEMS group than in the K-SEMS group (p < 0.001). Histologic examination revealed a significantly lower percentage of tissue hyperplasia area and a significantly thinner submucosal fibrosis in the I-SEMS group than in the K-SEMS group (all p < 0.001). There were no significant differences in the thickness of the epithelial layers (p = 0.290) and degree of inflammatory cell infiltration (p = 0.506). Formation of stent-induced tissue hyperplasia was evident with both I-SEMS and K-SEMS. Placement of I-SEMSs with a small cell size and high flexibility seems to be effective in suppressing stent-induced tissue hyperplasia compared with placement of K-SEMSs in rat esophageal models.

Introduction: Schwannoma of the glans is a rare clinical entity. The diagnosis is histological. Treatment is surgical, with complete excision. The authors report this rare case encountered at the University Hospital of Libreville in order to identify its clinical and therapeutic characteristics. Observation: Mr. I.B, 50 years old, with no medical-surgical history, consulted for swelling of the glans evolving for 06 years, preventing coitus. He reported a notion of poor healing from an acorn sore after the trouser fly was closed. The diagnostic suspicion was a glans keloid. A complete resection was performed. Histologic examination favored a glans schwannoma. Healing was effective on D7 postoperatively. Erectile functions have been preserved. Conclusion: The glans schwannoma is rare. Surgical treatment gives good results.

Ameloblastoma is a neoplasm that originates from odontogenic epithelium. It is the second most common neoplasm of the oral cavity. Unicystic ameloblastomas refer to those cystic lesions that show clinical, radiographic, or gross features of a jaw cyst, but on histologic examination show a typical ameloblastomatous epithelium lining part of the cyst cavity, with or without luminal and/ or mural growth. Even though the lesion is not that aggressive as the solid ameloblastoma, an accurate diagnosis should be made. This lesion needs to be treated more aggressively than any other periapical lesions.

Objective. To describe the sonopattern of limited scleroderma (LS) in the early stages after the onset of erythema.Materials and methods. The work describes a clinical case of limited plaque scleroderma. The sonographic examination was carried out on an ultrasound scanner using a transducer with operating frequencies of 10–16–18 MHz. Material sampling for the histologic examination of the skin was performed from the area with the most pronounced inflammatory changes under sonographic control.Results. It has been found that increased echogenicity of the dermis, “blurring” of the dermis/hypodermis boundary, increased echogenicity and the “stalactite-like” pattern of subcutaneous fat occur in the frst week of the disease; normalization or a signifcant improvement of the sonopattern is noted by the end of the second week or by the beginning of the third week after the onset of erythema.Conclusion. There is a certain parallelism between the histologic and sonographic patterns, which makes it possible to adequately assess both the activity and the stage of the LS process.

Hepatic epithelioid angiomyolipomas are uncommon mesenchymal neoplasms. They are difficult to diagnose by imaging, especially when the fatty component is scant or absent. The gold standard for the diagnosis is histologic examination coupled with an immunohistochemical study. Positive HMB-45 immunostaining of the myoid cells is a major diagnostic feature.

Nine cases of cherubism have been studdied with follouw up. Histologic examination can be conclusive in same cases, but a large experience on the part of the examiner is necesary. For a correct diagnosts in the every day practice, a Joint clinical, radiologic and histologic study is indispensable.
