A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, orange-coloured, catalase- and oxidase-positive, non-motile bacterium, designated strain 92VT, was isolated from the marine sponge Amphilectus fucorum, collected from Lough Hyne, County Cork, Ireland. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that strain 92VT clustered with members of the family Flavobacteriaceae , the closest member being Aquimarina latercula NCIMB 1399T, with a gene sequence similarity of 97.5 %. Strain 92VT required seawater for growth with optimal growth occurring at 25 °C, at pH 6–7 and with 3 % (w/v) NaCl. MK-6 was the sole respiratory quinone present and the major fatty acids were iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 1ω9c and iso-C15 : 0 3-OH. The DNA G+C content was 36.1 mol%. Combined phenotypic differences and phylogenetic analysis indicate that strain 92VT represents a novel species of the genus Aquimarina , for which the name Aquimarina amphilecti sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is 92VT ( = NCIMB 14723T = DSM 25232T).

A novel Gram-stain-negative, facultatively anaerobic, catalase- and oxidase-positive, non-motile and pink-pigmented bacterium, designated G22T, was isolated from Gahai, a saltwater lake in Qinghai province, China. Optimal growth occurred at 33–35 °C, pH 7.0–7.5, and in the presence of 2–4 % (w/v) NaCl. The DNA G+C content was 40.0 mol%. The major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine and three unknown lipids. The predominant cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, anteiso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and iso-C15 : 0 3-OH, and MK-7 was the main respiratory quinone. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain G22T fell within the class Bacteroidia . Its closest phylogenetic neighbour was the recently described species Draconibacterium orientale , the sole member of the family Draconibacteriaceae , with merely 90.04 % sequence similarity. On the basis of phenotypic, chemotaxonomic and phylogenetic evidence observed, a novel species in a new genus, Tangfeifania diversioriginum gen. nov., sp. nov., is proposed within the family Draconibacteriaceae . The type strain is G22T ( = CICC 10587T = DSM 27063T).

A Gram-stain-negative, aerobic coccus, designated CK1056T, was isolated from coastal sediment of Xiaoshi Island, Weihai, PR China. Strain CK1056T was found to grow at 15–37 °C (optimum, 30 °C), with 0.5–6.5 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 3.5 %) and displayed alkaliphilic growth within the pH range of pH 6.5–10.0 (optimum, pH 8.0). The major fatty acids identified were iso-C15 : 0 and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1  ω7c and/or C16 : 1  ω6c). The main polar lipids consisted of aminophosphoglycolipid and phosphatidylethanolamine. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 54.0 mol%. The result of the 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis confirmed the affiliation of this micro-organism to the family Puniceicoccaceae , with Coraliomargarita akajimensis KCTC 12865T as its closest relative with only 88.0 % sequence similarity. From the taxonomic data obtained in this study, we propose that the new marine isolate be placed into a novel species within a novel genus in the family Puniceicoccaceae , phylum Verrucomicrobia , for which the name Oceanipulchritudo coccoides gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is CK1056T (=KCTC 72798T=MCCC 1H00425T).

A Gram-stain-positive anaerobic rod-shaped bacterium, designated strain Marseille-P3275T, was isolated using culturomics from the vaginal discharge of healthy French woman. Marseille-P3275T was non-motile and did not form spores. Cells had neither catalase nor oxidase activity. The major fatty acids were C16 : 0 (29 %), C18:1ω9 (18 %), and iso-C15 : 0 (17 %). The genomic DNA G+C content was 50.64 mol%. The phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence indicated that Marseille-P3275T was related to members of the family Propionibacteriaceae (between 90.32–92.92 % sequence similarity) with formation of a clade with the monospecific genus Propionimicrobium (type species Propionimicrobium lymphophilum ). On the basis of these phylogenetic and phenotypic differences, Marseille-P3275T was classified in a novel genus, Vaginimicrobium, as Vaginimicrobium propionicum gen. nov., sp. nov. The type strain is Marseille-P3275T (=CSUR P3275T=CECT 9677T).

A novel Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile bacterium, designated strain N1T, was isolated from a marine water sample collected from the sea shore, Bay of Bengal, Visakhapatnam, India. The strain was positive for starch hydrolysis, nitrate reduction and ornithine decarboxylase activities and negative for citrate utilization, urease, oxidase, catalase and DNase activities. The predominant fatty acids were C16 : 0 3-OH, iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 0 3-OH, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, anteiso-C15 : 0, C16 : 0, C15 : 0 3-OH, and C16 : 1ω7c and/or iso-C15 : 0 2-OH (summed feature 3). Strain N1T contained menaquinone 6 (MK-6) as the sole respiratory quinone. The only polyamine was homospermidine and the major polar lipids were phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), three unidentified aminolipids (AL1–AL3) and two unidentified lipids (L1, L2). The DNA G+C content of the strain was 36.3 mol%. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain N1T was a member of the genus Flavobacterium and closely related to Flavobacterium resistens with pairwise sequence similarity of 96.5 %. Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain N1T clustered with Flavobacterium glycines and Flavobacterium daejeonense with a distance of 4.8 and 6.0 % (95.2 and 94.0 % similarity), respectively. Based on the phenotypic characteristics and on phylogenetic inference, strain N1T represents a novel species of the genus Flavobacterium , for which the name Flavobacterium nitratireducens sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is N1T ( = MTCC 11155T = JCM 17678T).

A Gram-stain-negative, rod-shaped, aerobic, non-flagellated, chemoheterotrophic bacterium, designated IMCC14385T, was isolated from surface seawater of the East Sea, Republic of Korea. The 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that IMCC14385T represented a member of the genus Halioglobus sharing 94.6–97.8 % similarities with species of the genus. Whole-genome sequencing of IMCC14385T revealed a genome size of 4.3 Mbp and DNA G+C content of 56.7 mol%. The genome of IMCC14385T shared an average nucleotide identity of 76.6 % and digital DNA–DNA hybridization value of 21.6 % with the genome of Halioglobus japonicus KCTC 23429T. The genome encoded the complete poly-β-hydroxybutyrate biosynthesis pathway. The strain contained summed feature 8 (C18 : 1 ω7c and/or C18 : 1 ω6c), summed feature 3 (C16 : 1 ω7c and/or C16 : 1 ω6c) and C17 : 1 ω8c as the predominant cellular fatty acids as well as ubiquinone-8 (Q-8) as the respiratory quinone. The polar lipids detected in the strain were phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylglycerol, diphosphatidylglycerol, five unidentified phospholipids, an unidentified aminolipid, an unidentified aminophospholipid and four unidentified lipids. On the basis of taxonomic data obtained in this study, it is suggested that IMCC14385T represents a novel species of the genus Halioglobus , for which the name Halioglobus maricola sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is IMCC14385T (=KCTC 72520T=NBRC 114072T).

A novel Gram-stain-negative bacteria, designated S37T, was isolated from soil of the Xixi wetland, Zhejiang province, China. Cells of strain S37T were aerobic, non-motile rods. Growth occurred at 10–37 °C (optimum, 25 °C), pH 5.0–9.7 (optimum, pH 7.5) and with 0–6 % (w/v) NaCl (optimum, 0.5 %). Based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, strain S37T was found to be a member of the genus Sphingobacterium and shared highest similarity with Sphingobacterium composti 4M24T (95.78 %). The major fatty acids were summed feature 3 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1ω7c), iso-C15 : 0 and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH, and the DNA G+C content was 43.8 mol%. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. Based on its phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics and phylogenetic data, strain S37T represents a novel species of the genus Sphingobacterium , for which the name Sphingobacterium paludis sp. nov. (type strain S37T = CGMCC 1.12801T = NBRC 110386T) is proposed.

A novel Gram-stain-negative, aerobic, gliding, rod-shaped and carotenoid-pigmented bacterium, designated A20-9T, was isolated from a microbial consortium of polyethylene terephthalate enriched from a deep-sea sediment sample from the Western Pacific. Growth was observed at salinities of 1–8 %, at pH 6.5–8 and at temperatures of 10–40 °C. The results of phylogenetic analyses based on the genome indicated that A20-9T formed a monophyletic branch affiliated to the family Schleiferiaceae , and the 16S rRNA gene sequences exhibited the maximum sequence similarity of 93.8 % with Owenweeksia hongkongensis DSM 17368T, followed by similarities of 90.4, 90.1 and 88.8 % with Phaeocystidibacter luteus MCCC 1F01079T, Vicingus serpentipes DSM 103558T and Salibacter halophilus MCCC 1K02288T, respectively. Its complete genome size was 4 035 598 bp, the genomic DNA G+C content was 43.2 mol%. Whole genome comparisons indicated that A20-9T and O. hongkongensis DSM 17368T shared 67.8 % average nucleotide identity, 62.7 % average amino acid identity value, 46.6% of conserved proteins and 17.8 % digital DNA–DNA hybridization identity. A20-9T contained MK-7 as the major respiratory quinone. Its major polar lipids were diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine and phospatidylcholine; and the major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0 (37.5 %), iso-C16 : 0 3-OH (12.4 %), and summed feature 3 (C16 : 1ω7c /C16 : 1ω6c, 11.6 %). Combining the genotypic and phenotypic data, A20-9T could be distinguished from the members of other genera within the family Schleiferiaceae and represents a novel genus, for which the name Croceimicrobium hydrocarbonivorans gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain is A20-9T (=MCCC 1A17358T =KCTC 72878T).

A novel Gram-negative, rod-shaped, non-motile, non-sporulating bacterium, designated strain K1T, was isolated from an estuarine water sample collected from Kochi, Kerala, India. Colonies on marine agar were circular, 2.0–2.5 mm in diameter, shiny, yellow, translucent and convex with entire margins. Strain K1T was negative for ornithine decarboxylase, lysine decarboxylase, nitrate reduction and H2S production. The fatty acids were dominated by iso-branched components with a high abundance of iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G and iso-C17 : 0 3-OH; MK-6 (64 %) and MK-7 (34 %) were found as major respiratory quinones; and phosphatidylethanolamine, two unidentified aminolipids, four unidentified phospholipids and two unidentified lipids were major polar lipids. The DNA G+C content of strain K1T was 46.1 mol%. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis indicated that strain K1T was related most closely to the type strain of Zhouia amylolytica (pairwise sequence similarity of 93.0 %). Phylogenetic analysis showed that strain K1T formed a distinct branch within the family Flavobacteriaceae and clustered with the clade comprising species of the genera Zhouia , Coenonia and Capnocytophaga , being phylogenetically most closely related to the type strain of Zhouia amylolytica at a distance of 9.2 % (90.8 % similarity). Other species of the genera within the same clade were related to strain K1T at distances of 15.0–23.1 %. Based on phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics and on phylogenetic inference, strain K1T is considered to represent a novel species of a new genus in the family Flavobacteriaceae , for which the name Imtechella halotolerans gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Imtechella halotolerans is K1T ( = MTCC 11055T = JCM 17677T).

A yellow, rod-shaped, Gram-negative, facultatively aerobic, gliding bacterium, designed strain P7-3-5T, was isolated from intertidal sand of the Yellow Sea, China. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene sequences revealed that strain P7-3-5T formed a distinct lineage within the family Flavobacteriaceae , sharing 94.2–96.9 % sequence similarity with type strains of species of the most closely related genera, including Hyunsoonleella , Jejuia , Marinivirga and Algibacter . The strain grew at 4–40 °C and with 0.5–5.0 % (w/v) NaCl. It reduced nitrate to nitrite and hydrolysed gelatin and DNA. The major cellular fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C15 : 1 G and anteiso-C15 : 0 and the major respiratory quinone was MK-6. Polar lipids included phosphatidylethanolamine (PE), three unidentified aminolipids (AL1–3) and four unidentified lipids (L1–4). The genomic DNA G+C content of strain P7-3-5T was 32.1 mol%. Data from this polyphasic study suggest that strain P7-3-5T represents a novel species in a new genus in the family Flavobacteriaceae , for which the name Arenitalea lutea gen. nov., sp. nov. is proposed. The type strain of Arenitalea lutea is P7-3-5T ( = CGMCC 1.12213T = KACC 16457T).

A Gram-negative, strictly aerobic, rod-shaped, non-motile, non-spore-forming bacterial strain, designated TR6-04T, was isolated from compost and characterized taxonomically by using a polyphasic approach. The organism grew optimally at 30 °C and at pH 6.5–7.0. The isolate was positive for catalase and oxidase tests but negative for gelatinase, indole and H2S production. Comparative 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis showed that strain TR6-04T fell within the radiation of the cluster comprising Sphingobacterium species and clustered with Sphingobacterium mizutaii ATCC 33299T (96.7 % sequence similarity); the similarity to sequences of other species within the family Sphingobacteriaceae was less than 92.0 %. The G+C content of the genomic DNA was 38.7 mol%. The predominant respiratory quinone was MK-7. The major fatty acids were iso-C15 : 0, iso-C17 : 0 3-OH and summed feature 4 (iso-C15 : 0 2-OH and/or C16 : 1 ω7c). These chemotaxonomic data supported the affiliation of strain TR6-04T to the genus Sphingobacterium. However, on the basis of its phenotypic properties and phylogenetic distinctiveness, strain TR6-04T (=KCTC 12579T=LMG 23402T=CCUG 52468T) should be classified as the type strain of a novel species, for which the name Sphingobacterium daejeonense sp. nov. is proposed.
