The microwave spectrum of 2-chloropyridine, 2-Cl(C5H4N), has been studied to determine the 35Cl, 37Cl and 14N nuclear quadrupole coupling constants. The results are discussed within a simple MO theory. We propose an approximate r0-structure under certain assumptions. In addition to the ground state we observed one vibrationally excited state of both chlorine isotopic species of 2-chloropyridine.

The microwave spectrum of trimethylchlorosilane has been investigated between 8 and 20 GHz. The quadrupole splitting of the K = 0 lines of the transitions J = 2 → 3 and 3 → 4 have been determined. The quadrupole coupling constant of the Cl-35 atom is determined to -34.701 MHz, and the rotational constant is determined to B0 = 2197.382 MHz.

The temperature dependence of the Mossbauer spectra of some iron- containing compounds of dithioacetylacetone are reported between 4 and 293 K. The quadrupole splitting ΔEq of [Fe(SacSac)3] is larger than usually observed for low-spin six-coordinated iron(III) and is ascribed to the lifting of orbital degeneracy of the 2T2 ground state by small axial and rhombic distortions. The unsubstituted and phenyl-substituted dithiolium salts of [FeCl4]2- exhibit strongly temperature-dependent quadrupole splittings, which arise directly from the lifting of the orbital degeneracy of the 5E ground state due to distortion of the [FeCl4]2- tetrahedron.

The microwave ground state spectra of methylphosphine-borane-(11B) and methylphosphinetrideuteroborane-(11B) have been measured by microwave Fourier transform spectroscopy and analysed for 11B-nuclear quadrupole hyperfine splittings and CH3 and BH3 torsion fine structure. As high J transitions were measured a centrifugal distortion analysis was necessary. The B-P bond order is discussed.
