AbstractWe have shown that the Fano interference in the decay channels of a three-level system can lead to considerably different absorption and emission profiles. We found that a coherence can be built up in the ground state doublet, with strength depending on a coupling parameter that arises from the Fano interference. The coherence can in principle lead to breaking of the detail balance between the absorption and emission processes in atomic systems.

The β-decay rates of 60Ca have been studied within a microscopic model, which is based on the Skyrme interaction T45 to construct single-particle and phonon spaces. We observe a redistribution of the Gamow–Teller strength due to the phonon-phonon coupling, considered in the model. For 60Sc, the spin-parity of the ground state is found to be 1+. We predict that the half-life of 60Ca is 0.3 ms, while the total probability of the βxn emission is 6:1%. Additionally, the random matrix theory has been applied to analyze the statistical properties of the 1+ spectrum populated in the β-decay to elucidate the obtained results.

The low-lying level structure of 31 Mg has been investigated by the theoretical framework of deformed-basis antisymmetrized molecular dynamics (DAMD) plus generator coordinate method (GCM) with the Gogny D1S force. It is shown that the N =20 magic number is broken and the intruder configuration (neutron 2p3h configuration) dominates the ground state. The observed data such as the magnetic moment and β decay strength are well reproduced.

In this paper we will present a study of several Tm and Pr compounds, where the rare earth atoms have as their two lowest energy levels a quasi-doublet ground state. These compounds are also compared with Er and/or Dy compounds, which have a Kramers doublet as ground state. Four compounds (TmNi5, TmCu2, TmCuAl and PrRu2Si2) are discussed in sequence, where the energy separation of the two levels of the quasi-doublet ground state doublet is increasing. These compounds were studied with rare earth Mössbauer spectroscopy and µSR as the main measuring techniques.

A microscopic treatment of weak processes like the β-decay of 14C (ground state) or 14O (ground state) and the partial muon capture by 14N (ground state) to 14C (ground state) is presented in order to detect the possible importance of the mesonic exchange currents in these unusually inhibited processes. The study shows that this possibility could occur in the muon capture process associated with the total spin [Formula: see text] hyperfine state.
