AbstractWe have shown that the Fano interference in the decay channels of a three-level system can lead to considerably different absorption and emission profiles. We found that a coherence can be built up in the ground state doublet, with strength depending on a coupling parameter that arises from the Fano interference. The coherence can in principle lead to breaking of the detail balance between the absorption and emission processes in atomic systems.

Coherence preservation of a multilevel system subject to Markovian decoherence is studied. A Lambda-type three-level atom is selected as the system model. Coherence preservation between a ground state and the excited state of such a system is defined as the control object. A control field is designed by means of constraining the constant coherence condition. For the singularities of the control field, we qualitatively analyze the breakdown time, i.e. the time of control diverging. We obtain the region in which the state stays to maintain coherence forever in the case that the three-level system is reduced to a two-level one. For other cases, we investigate how different parameters affect the breakdown time qualitatively. Numerical experiments are implemented on a three-level quantum system and the experimental results are analyzed.

We present our approach for a consistent, fully quantum mechanical description of the magnetization reversal process in natural and artificial atomic systems by means of short magnetic pulses. In terms of the simplest model of a two-level system with a magnetic moment, we analyze the possibility of a fast magnetization reversal on the picosecond timescale induced by oscillating or short unipolar magnetic pulses. We demonstrate the possibility of selective magnetization reversal of a superconducting flux qubit using a single flux quantum-based pulse and suggest a promising, rapid Λ-scheme for resonant implementation of this process. In addition, the magnetization reversal treatment is fulfilled within the framework of the macroscopic theory of the magnetic moment, which allows for the comparison and explanation of the quantum and classical behavior.

The Georgi–Machacek (GM) model predicts the existence of the doubly-charged scalars [Formula: see text], which can be seen the typical particles in this model and their diboson decay channels are one of the most promising ways to discover such new doubly-charged scalars. Based on the constraints of the latest combined ATLAS and CMS Higgs boson diphoton signal strength data at [Formula: see text] confidence level, we focus on the study of the triple scalar production in [Formula: see text] collisions at the future International Linear collider (ILC): [Formula: see text], where the production cross-sections are very sensitive to the triple scalar coupling parameter [Formula: see text]. Considering the typical same-sign diboson decay modes for the doubly-charged scalars, the possible final signals might be detected via this process at the future ILC experiments.

AbstractPhosphorescence studies of reverse saturable absorption materials (RSA) are discussed. Absorption and emission measurements of an RSA material, specifically Zinc 2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octabromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnOBP), are performed in a proprietary host polymer. Spectra are analyzed to estimate the relative energy level of the first triplet state of ZnOBP with respect to the ground state.
