Purpose – Many projects involve an organisational change component. Project management (PM) and change management (CM) have the potential to jointly contribute to the delivery of organisational changes. However, there is a lack of clarity in the literature about the boundary and relationship between these disciplines. The purpose of this paper is to explore the contribution these disciplines make to a set of project critical success factors, to understand the ways that these disciplines can most effectively work together. Design/methodology/approach – This paper analyses data collected through an online survey, examining project managers’ and change managers’ perception of each disciplines’ contribution to critical success factors. The survey received 455 responses. Findings – This paper identifies the success factors that are most clearly influenced by PM and CM, and areas where practitioners of these disciplines hold significantly different perceptions of their contributions. The results have been used to rank and categorise success factors based on the influence of each discipline. This has been used to develop a risk-based questionnaire to guide the contribution of PM and CM to the mitigation of specific project risks. Originality/value – These findings will be of use to practitioners managing organisational change projects, or projects with a significant change component. The findings will be of assistance in determining the ways in which these disciplines should work together to mitigate risks associated with specific critical success factors.

Innovation, is a subject of considerable interest for entrepreneurs. They share a keen interest in learning how to foster innovation and creativity in ways that help firms to create increasing amounts of wealth. Research on innovation and creativity has increased ever since they were considered to be the key to building a competitive advantage. In fact, it is a challenge for organizations to sustain innovation. In this chapter, we explore the factors that entrepreneurs should address to channel innovation in their organizations. Entrepreneurship, on the other hand, requires the funneling and implementation of creative ideas, leading to innovation. This chapter is particularly relevant to global managers seeking to identify inhibitors of creativity and business innovation and how to combat the roadblocks and create a sustainable innovation environment. The chapter discusses the three essential components that must be considered to spur innovation. We highlight the best practices associated with these factors through a case study of three organizations.

Many online communities involving seniors have come into existence, yet not all of these have survived. There are numerous reasons for success and failure in the creation, management and maintenance of these online communities. Through an exploration of two communities, NEAT and GreyPath, numerous factors are uncovered for the successful sustenance of such online communities. Both communities have reached maturity successfully, one continues to enjoy success, the other is on the precipice of continuing to survive or to cease to exist. Two critical success factors discovered were valuing members in peer based interaction through a flat structure, and hybridity.

Markets, technologies, and the business environment change in shorter cycles, and organizations need to transform. Often transformations in organizations include new software systems. ITIL defines change as the process of moving from one defined state to another. The introduction of software systems within change projects fail in a large number of cases. What are the success factors for a thriving change project? A systematic literature review leads to 22 critical success factors of change management. Sixty-one articles were read. Ten of them are relevant for this contribution. Twenty-two critical success factors for change management have been described. Analysis of critical success factors for change management is a crucial part of successful implementation of software systems in organizations since such factors are relevant for successful changes.

For the past decade, the Tanzanian government has started implementing m-government initiatives. However, little is known about the factors surrounding m-government adoption in Tanzania. Consequently, some m-government services have been successfully adopted while others are still struggling (having a low level of adoption). In this chapter, the authors investigate critical success factors (CSFs) that favor the adoption of m-government services from a web analytics point of view. The results show that inspecting the web analytics data from multiple viewpoints and varying levels of detail, gives insights on the CSFs towards the adoption of m-government services. The findings suggest that perceived usefulness, user needs, and usability favor the adoption of one m-government service over the other. Moreover, factors like the loading time of the service, the number of requests, and bounce rate seem not to have an effect.

Nowadays, the requirements of the software are changing rapidly in order to meet clients’ needs, which increases the complexity of developing software. Thus, Agile requirements engineering has arisen and it focuses on how to deal with the increasing changes in software requirements by gathering requirements iteratively and collaboratively with the clients. Thus, the clients’ satisfaction could be met more easily. On the other side, researchers have tried to improve agile requirements engineering from time to time, however, there are still limitations and challenges faced, which need more attention. Thus, this study is conducted by performing a systematic literature review technique to investigate the challenges, critical success factors, and the topics that need more attention in the agile requirements engineering field. In the beginning, the study obtained 178 articles related to this topic which were published from 2002 until 2019. After a thorough analysis of the articles, the study reviewed the ten (10) challenges and the proposed solutions that mentioned in the previous studies. Besides that, the study found six (6) critical success factors, and highlighted four (4) topics that need more attention from the researchers in future studies in agile requirements engineering.

Recently, the Tanzanian government has started making m-government initiatives. However, little is known about the factors and conditions surrounding m-government adoption in Tanzania. Consequently, some m-government services have been successfully adopted while others are still struggling (having a low level of adoption). This study investigates critical success factors (CSFs) that led m-government services belonging to the same family to have varying degrees of adoption level. The study employs a set of web analytics tools that monitored and analyzed the traffic data of the selected three m-government services. The results show that inspecting the web analytics data from multiple viewpoints and varying levels of detail gives insights on the CSFs towards the adoption of m-government services. The findings suggest that perceived usefulness, user needs, and usability favor the adoption of one m-government service over the other.
