Pre-service teachers’ intention to use learning management system: an integration of UTAUT and TAM

Purpose This paper aims to develop and test a research model to explore the factors that influence pre-service teachers’ intention to use learning management system (LMS). Design/methodology/approach A cross-section study was conducted. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data from participants. The total number of participants was 361 pre-service teachers. Partial least square structural equation model was used to analyze the data. Findings The findings of this study found that the research model explained approximately 43% of the variance in behavioral intention. Also, the findings revealed that attitude and social influence had an effect on behavioral intention to use technology, but the facilitating condition had no effect on behavior intention to use technology. Finally, performance expectancy, effort expectancy and social influence had an effect on attitude while facilitating condition had no effect on attitude. Originality/value In technology acceptance research, unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) and technology acceptance model (TAM) have been broadly designed and empirically tested to elucidate the determinants that impact users’ intention to operate technology in the developed world. However, research on the validation of TAM and UTAUT to explain the determinants that influence preservice teachers’ intention to use a LMS in developing countries is insufficient. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the efficacy of the integrated model of TAM and UTAUT to explain preservice teachers’ intention to use technology and explore the influential determinants that explain preservice teachers’ intention to use LMS.

The purpose of this study is to measure factors that influence students’acceptance of a Learning Management System (LMS) using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). LMS is an information system that facilitates e-learning that serves to process, store, disseminate learning materials and provides administrative support and communication related to the teaching and learning process. Support students as users of the LMS content are one of the success factors in the implementation of the LMS. This study uses the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which has five factors namely perceived usefullness, perceived ease of use, attitudes towards to use, behavioral intention to use and actual use. A set of questionnaires have been completed by 60 students in Politeknik SAKTI Surabaya. Data were processed using SmartPLS and analyzed using the Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Square (SEM-PLS) method. The results showed that the TAM was valid, reliable, and substantially acceptable based on the results of data evaluation, ie the indicator factor loading > 0.5, the t-statistic ≥ 1.96, the cronbach alpha ≥ 0.6, and the value of the goodness of fit  = 0.47. The factors that influence students’acceptance of a LMS in Politeknik SAKTI Surabaya are perceived usefullness, perceived ease of use, and attitudes towards to use, affecting the intention to use, and significantly affect the actual use of LMS.

The COVID-19 Pandemic has led to social isolation; however, with the help of technology, education can continue through this tough time. Therefore, this research attempts to explore the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) through the expansion of the model. Also, make it relevant to investigate the influence of social isolation, and the moderating role of Corona fear on Behavioral Intention of the Learning Management System and its Use Behavior of Learning Management System among students. The data was analyzed using Partial Least Square (PLS) and Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). The findings show a positive link of Performance Expectancy (PE), Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), and Social Isolation on Behavioral Intention of LMS and, also between Behavioral Intention of LMS and its Use behavior. Moreover, the results of the moderation analysis show that Corona fears only moderates the link of Performance Expectancy and Social influence with Behavioral Intention of LMS. The findings imply the need for improving the LMS experience to increase its Behavioral Intention among students. Finally, the author's recommendation for future researchers is to examine the extended model in other countries and territories to analyze Coronavirus's influence on e-learning acceptance.

PurposeThis study aims to expand the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT2) by exploring the effect of two new predictors: technological innovativeness and information quality, along with the learning value and the original determinants that influence faculty and students’ acceptance of the Moodle-Learning Management System. The modified model includes nine predictors: performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, learning value, hedonic motivation, habit, technological innovativeness and information quality.Design/methodology/approachThe study is based on a cross-sectional survey design. The target population was faculty and students of the University of Kufa in Iraq. An online questionnaire was used to collect 228 responses from faculty and 553 from students.FindingsResults of the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) Partial Least Squares (PLS) analysis revealed that factors which influence faculty acceptance were social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, habit, technological innovativeness and information quality, while factors which influence student acceptance were performance expectancy, facilitating conditions, learning value, hedonic motivation, habit, technological innovativeness and information quality.Originality/valueThe theoretical and practical contribution of the present study lies in the expansion of the UTAUT2 model through adding neoteric predictors, which are technological innovativeness and information quality. This study provides insights and further understanding of the effect of predictors (original and additive) on users’ acceptance of e-learning management system. In addition, the findings of the current study enable decision-makers and those interested in developing Moodle-LMS to obtain in-depth information on these indicators, especially in the Iraqi higher education environment.

The current study examined factors affecting higher education students’ use of a mobile-based Learning Management System (m-LMS) for distance education during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (Covid-19). A survey instrument based on the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) and the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) was established and validated. The primary data were gathered from 1032 responses. The data were computed in SmartPLS 3.2. Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) procedures were conducted to assess the measurement and structural models. The proposed model is valid and reliable. Findings of the study show that relationships emerge in seven out of ten hypotheses. The strongest relationship is between Perceived Usefulness and Attitude while the weakest exists between Perceived Ease of Use and Attitude. This study emphasizes awareness about the use of m-LMS in education, especially during distance education due to pandemics like Covid-19. The model is expected to provide a useful base for future academicians interested in conducting similar topics of research.

Purpose This study aims to determine system quality (SQ) and information quality (IQ) characteristics of voice assistants (VA) on smartphones that are affecting users’ satisfaction and technology acceptance, and how these affect behavioral intention (BI) to use. Design/methodology/approach This study uses the integrated model of user satisfaction and technology acceptance to evaluate users’ behavioral intention to use VAs on smartphones. The model represents a causal chain from the key characteristics of SQ and IQ to beliefs and attitudes that ultimately affect use. An online survey was conducted with 75 university students, and the data was analyzed using multivariate analysis: Simple linear regression analysis and multiple regression analysis. Findings While SQ and IQ of VAs had stronger effects on perceived ease of use (PEU), information satisfaction and PEU showed significant influences on perceived usefulness (PU). The results supported the influence of PEU, PU, and attitude on BI to use but with lesser effect than what PU and attitude together had on BI. Research limitations/implications The sample was drawn from a population of students at a single and small university. Although this study received 160 responses, only 75 were appropriate for analysis. Originality/value There is no research, which adopts technology acceptance and user satisfaction approaches to VAs. To measure the causal effects, this study determined system and information characteristics that could explain SQ and IQ of the current VAs on smartphones. This study tested the proposed framework within the scope of the integrated approach.

Purpose The sharing economy is described as a community marketplace, particularly home sharing such as Airbnb, which is more prevalent. Airbnb changed the way renters and tourists find places to stay when they are traveling. The company introduced innovations in business models and technologies. So, Airbnb requires specific factors that will influence consumers’ trust because consumers intuitively seek out trusting factors to make judgments on innovative service providers. Thus, the purpose of this study is to understand the factors that influence travelers’ trust to use Airbnb within the three ASEAN nations. Design/methodology/approach The data were collected from both qualitative and quantitative methods. The questionnaire was the main data-gathering instrument used in this study and supplemented by informal interviews. A self-administered questionnaire was provided to 130 Airbnb users from the Philippines, Indonesia and Singapore using Hayes’ Process Macro as the statistical tool. Findings The correlation test was carried out to determine the strength and relationships among the independent, mediating and dependent variables. All independent variables are positively correlated with the mediating variable. The results reveal that ease of use, convenience, information social influence, normative social influence and security have a significant impact on trust and behavioral intention to use Airbnb. Originality/value This study contributes to the field of sharing economy, particularly home sharing, by examining different factors that influence trust and behavioral intention. This study focused on the case of Southeast Asian consumers, so this study is useful for marketing practitioners to enhance their marketing strategies in catering to this segment of the market.
