Lighting is one of the important reasons of transmission line trip accident. For 330kV and above ultra high voltage transmission line, lighting flashover more frequently occur. To reduce tripping rate effectively and fundamentally, lightning over voltage level should be analyzed besides anti-pollution flashover. In this paper, a simplified equivalent circuit model of a 330kV overhead transmission lines is established. The lightning over voltage of the transmission is analyzed and calculated. Method to reduce the lightning overvoltage is discussed.

A pollution flashover along an insulation surface—a catastrophic accident in electrical power system—threatens the safe and reliable operation of a power grid. Silicone rubber coatings are applied to the surfaces of other insulation materials in order to improve the pollution flashover voltage of the insulation structure. It is generally believed that the hydrophobicity of the silicone rubber coating is key to blocking the physical process of pollution flashover, which prevents the formation of continuously wet pollution areas. However, it is unclear whether silicone rubber coating can suppress the generation of pre-discharges such as corona discharge and streamer discharge. In this research, the influence of silicone rubber coating on the characteristics of surface streamer discharge was researched in-depth. The streamer ‘stability’ propagation fields of the polymer are lower than that of the polymer with silicone rubber coating. The velocities of the streamer propagation along the polymer are higher than those along the polymer with silicone rubber coating. This indicates that the surface properties of the polymer with the silicone rubber coating are less favorable for streamer propagation than those of the polymer.

For contamination of the medium voltage insulatorsXP-7 strain insulator-string, analysis of localized pollution flashover accident in recent years with a surface of insulator contamination degree of relationship, through the surface of porcelain insulator pollution layer conductivity indicators and calculation analysis on pollution flashover voltage, promote different voltage contaminated insulator under replacing the feasibility of early warning. Results showed that, the relationship between pollution flashover voltage and conductivity parameters is clear, available with microprocessor and more intuitive remote communication unit for remote monitoring and control system of early warning, reduce default phase pollution flashover accident of the power ring network of transmission lines in remote areas , enhance the stability of power load .

Transmission lines is an important part of the power system. Transmission line condition monitoring system can enhance the operational reliability of the grid line level of safety, at the same time lay the foundation for intelligent transmission line. Insulator contamination monitoring , lightning monitoring, environmental monitoring, wire breeze vibration monitoring online monitoring technology on the existing transmission line condition monitoring technologies , including comparative analysis of the far-reaching. It can reduce the workload of the artificial line inspection , to reduce the occurrence of pollution flashover to improve power supply reliability. To reduce the pollution flashover occurred to improve the reliability of power supply. Condition based maintenance decision support and sharing of information with other systems. HOMER and MATLAB simulation software , simulation , historical data analysis . Export real - time wind speed data, provide data to support the conductor galloping and aeolian vibration of monitoring and environmental monitoring.
