At present, silicone rubber-based ablative composites are usually enhanced by carbon fibers (CFs) to protect the case of solid rocket motors (SRMs). However, the effect of the CFs’ length on the microstructure and ablation properties of the silicone rubber-based ablative composites has been ignored. In this work, different lengths of CFs were introduced into silicone rubber-based ablative composites to explore the effect of fiber length, and ceramic layers of various morphologies were constructed after ablation. It was found that a complete and continuous skeleton in ceramic layers was formed by CFs over 3 mm in length. In addition, the oxyacetylene ablation results showed that the linear ablation rate declined from 0.233 to 0.089 mm/s, and the maximum back-face temperature decreased from 117.7 to 107.9 °C as the length of the CFs increased from 0.5 to 3 mm. This can be attributed to the fact that successive skeletons concatenated and consolidated the ceramic fillers as well as residues to form an integrated, robust, and dense ceramic layer.

To solve the problems of low strength and high viscosity of room temperature vulcanized liquid silicone rubber, a series of terminated vinyl silicone oil were designed and synthesized, and low viscosity and high strength silicone rubber were prepared by the mechanical reinforcing agent. the results show that the molecular structure of the vinyl-terminated silicone oil has a significant effect on the mechanical properties and viscosity of the silicone rubber, and the best performance is found when the content of vinyl-terminated silicone oil is 0.16%. The low viscosity and high strength silicone rubber prepared from it was reinforced by vinyl MQ resin and fumed silica, which had a significant effect on improving the performance. Its tensile strength increased to 5.03 MPa, elongation at break to 338.90%, and tear strength to 7.15 kN/m compared to conventional silicone rubber, while the hardness increased to 43°. The viscosity is 34.9 Pa•s. The compression modulus is 7.48 MPa.

AbstractSilane-functionalized graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) were prepared using a newly developed approach based upon a simple two-step strategy. The effect of their dispersion and interfacial bonding on the mechanical properties and thermal conductivity of reinforced silicone rubber (SR) was investigated. It was found by Raman mapping that the silane-functionalized GNPs could be dispersed uniformly into the SR matrix, leading to an increase of up to 25% in Young’s modulus at only 2 parts per hundred rubber (phr) loading and a considerable enhancement of up to 150% in the thermal conductivity at 5-phr loading. Both the Young’s modulus and thermal conductivity experimental results were found to be in agreement with the values predicted using theoretical models. Graphical abstract

A cesarean section (c-section) is a surgical procedure aimed to deliver a baby by opening the abdominal wall and uterus. Now, c-section is one of the choices that are often chosen by mothers when giving birth. The knowledge and skills of c-section are important in education that focuses on obstetrics and obstetrics, especially for prospective specialist doctors taking the title of Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynecology (SpOG). Residents are required to be able to understand the procedure of c-section both in theory and practice. To train and improve c-section skills, one of the methods used is to use c-section props. This study aims to design and manufacture c-section props that resemble actual conditions and can be used repeatedly. The cesarean section props consist of three main parts, namely the abdominal body, the uterus, and the synthetic skin layer of the abdomen. The product master uses 3D printer results with PLA filament material. The props are made of RTV-48 silicone rubber and Polyurethane Foam with a mold made of fiberglass composite using the Hand Lay-UP method. The c-section props produced can provide an overview of the general cesarean surgery procedure.

Abstract This work is focused on the upper part of the prosthesis which is called a socket, it is in contact connect with the amputated part. The shear force between skin and socket, local pressure, sweating, and bacteria generation, all lead to skin inflammation and a bad smell. Consequently, the prosthesis became uncomfortable for a patient. To address this issue silicone rubber liners is proposed to use because it can absorb moisture, stress distribution, and anti-bacterial. The curing time and temperature are important factors for determining crosslink density, from the results obtained, can be noticed that, the cross-link density can greatly affect the silicone rubber properties, it can have a direct effect on the tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, percentage of elongation as well as the water absorption, and the cure time (15 min.) shoes the best resalt. As a result, using it making the prosthesis more comfortable and acceptable to the patient. In this paper, the effect of cure time on physical properties was studied.
