SummaryA new approach to represent assembly called state matrix representation and an algorithm for automatic robot assembly planning based on this representation is proposed. The state matrix representation of assembly is configured by considering the inter-relationships of parts and objects involved in the initial and the goal structures. Thanks to this new representation, the planning lgorithm is straightforward and can be easily and efficiently implemented with simple matrix manipulation. Unlike other planning methods, the actions involved in the assembly process are not defined in advance but are generated at planning time. The syntax of actions are designed so that while directly reflecting the semantics of actions, they can be easily manipulated by the planner. Two examples of how to plan an assembly based on this representation are given in the paper.

To deal with the complete description and quick search in 3D assembly instruction publishing, a Two-dimension description method of process information for 3D assembly instruction publishing was presented. Two-dimensional description model of process information is established from operation description and granularity by this method. In order to organize process information with a certain description stage, the concept of process information layer was proposed, and the describe structure for process information layers was been build based on similarity criteria. Subsequently, an abstract matrix representation method is provided to express 3D process information and build the assembly instructions publishing model. Abstract matrix representation method was the key to influence the 3D process information description, Therefore, In-depth researched on it and an instantiated matrix is given. Finally, an illustrative example is used to explain an application of the proposed approach.

Abstract We present a different method for studying the Weingarten map for a hypersurface in the Euclidean space . Applying the Cartesian coordinates of the ambient space and tangential Günter's derivatives we obtain a simple matrix representation formula for the Weingarten map for implicit hypersurfaces, which can be applied, for example, to calculate the mean and Gauß's curvatures without passing to intrinsic coordinates.

Abstract Increasingly strict emission and fuel economy standards stimulates the researches on hybrid electric vehicle techniques in automobile industry and one of the most important techniques is the design of powertrain configurations. In this paper, a theoretical design methodology for hybrid electric vehicle powertrain configurations is proposed to find the configurations with excellent performance in a large pool of configurations. There are two main parts in a powertrain configuration, power/coupling devices (engine, electric machine, wheel and planetary gear set) and mechanical connections between these devices. Different connections will lead to the configurations having different performance. This paper divides all connections in configurations into three categories and a novel matrix representation method is developed to express these kinds of connections so as to reflect system dynamics and physical structure of configurations. With the support of the matrix representation method, configuration selections from large pools can automatically be completed by computer and manually calculation and comparison can be avoided, which saves much energy and time. Finally, the proposed method is vigorously verified by simulations.

To deal with the complete description and quick search for 3D process instruction publishing, a three-section process information description method was presented based on the features of process data. First, a three-section description model for 3D process instruction publishing is established according to the application type and data structure. Subsequently, an abstract matrix representation method is provided to express 3D process information, then the specific contents of the abstract matrix is analyzed and an instantiated matrix is given. Finally, an illustrative example is used to explain an application of the proposed approach.
