Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present a fuzzy-rule-based model to classify spare parts inventories considering multiple criteria for better management of maintenance activities to overcome production down situation. Design/methodology/approach – Fuzzy-rule-based approach for multi-criteria decision making is used to classify the spare parts inventories. Total cost is computed for each group considering suitable inventory policies and compared with other existing models. Findings – Fuzzy-rule-based multi-criteria classification model provides better results as compared to aggregate scoring and traditional ABC classification. This model offers the flexibility for inventory management experts to provide their subjective inputs. Practical implications – The web-based model developed in this paper can be implemented in various industries such as manufacturing, chemical plants, and mining, etc., which deal with large number of spares. This method classifies the spares into three categories A, B and C considering multiple criteria and relationships among those criteria. The framework is flexible enough to add additional criteria and to modify fuzzy-rule-base at any point of time by the decision makers. This model can be easily integrated to any customized Enterprise Resource Planning applications. Originality/value – The value of this paper is in applying Fuzzy-rule-based approach for Multi-criteria Inventory Classification of spare parts. This rule-based approach considering multiple criteria is not very common in classification of spare parts inventories. Total cost comparison is made to compare the performance of proposed model with the traditional classifications and the result shows that proposed fuzzy-rule-based classification approach performs better than the traditional ABC and gives almost the same cost as aggregate scoring model. Hence, this method is valid and adds a new value to spare parts classification for better management decisions.

REST Web Services is a lightweight, maintainable, and scalable service accelerating client application development. The antipatterns of these services are inadequate and counter-productive design solutions. They have caused many qualitative problems in the maintenance and evolution of REST web services. This paper proposes an automated approach toward antipattern detection of the REST web services using Genetic Programming (GP). Three sets of generic, REST-specific and code-level metrics are considered. Twelve types of antipatterns are examined. The results are compared with the manual rule-based approach. The statistical analysis indicates that the proposed method has an average precision and recall scores of 98% (95% CI, 92.8% to 100%) and 82% (95% CI, 79.3% to 84.7%) and effectively detects REST antipatterns.

Manufacturing supplier discovery in virtual environments is a computationally intensive task. Existing electronic marketplaces for manufacturing services, due to their syntactic and human-oriented approach in search, fail to build accurate connection between seller and buyers. Automation and intelligence are the two key requirements of web-based solution for efficient deployment of virtual supply chains. It was previously shown that an ontological approach, because of its semantic nature, yields more precise results compared to traditional techniques such as keyword search. While the proposed ontology, known as Manufacturing Service Description Language (MSDL), can sufficiently encode structural knowledge in the manufacturing domain, it doesn’t have the required level of expressivity for representing constraint knowledge. This paper introduces an extension to MSDL for formal representation of constraints and rules based on Semantic Web Rule Language (SWRL). To identify the rules and to evaluate the performance of the rule-based technique, an experimental approach is followed in this research.

Text classification has grown into more significant in managing and organizing the text data due to tremendous growth of online information. It does classification of documents in to fixed number of predefined categories. Rule based approach and Machine learning approach are the two ways of text classification. In rule based approach, classification of documents is done based on manually defined rules. In Machine learning based approach, classification rules or classifier are defined automatically using example documents. It has higher recall and quick process. This paper shows an investigation on text classification utilizing different machine learning techniques.

: In this competing world, education has become part of everyday life. The process of imparting the knowledge to the learner through education is the core idea in the Teaching-Learning Process (TLP). An assessment is one way to identify the learner’s weak spot of the area under discussion. An assessment question has higher preferences in judging the learner's skill. In manual preparation, the questions are not assured in excellence and fairness to assess the learner’s cognitive skill. Question generation is the most important part of the teaching-learning process. It is clearly understood that generating the test question is the toughest part. Methods: Proposed an Automatic Question Generation (AQG) system which automatically generates the assessment questions dynamically from the input file. Objective: The Proposed system is to generate the test questions that are mapped with blooms taxonomy to determine the learner’s cognitive level. The cloze type questions are generated using the tag part-of-speech and random function. Rule-based approaches and Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques are implemented to generate the procedural question of the lowest blooms cognitive levels. Analysis: The outputs are dynamic in nature to create a different set of questions at each execution. Here, input paragraph is selected from computer science domain and their output efficiency are measured using the precision and recall.
