The pseudo-color processing for target identification and tracking is very meaningful Experimental results show that the pseudo-color image fusion is a very effective methods. This paper presents a false color image fusion based on the new method. Fusion using wavelet transform grayscale images, find the gray fused image and the difference between the original image, respectively, as the image of l, α, β components are color fusion image, and then after the color transformation, the final false color fused image. The results showed that the color fusion image colors more vivid, more in line with human visual characteristics.

A biologically inspired image fusion mechanism is analyzed in this paper. A pseudo-color image fusion method is proposed based on the improvement of a traditional method. The proposed model describes the fusion process using several abstract definitions which correspond to the detailed behaviors of neurons. Firstly, the infrared image and visible image are respectively ON against enhanced and OFF against enhanced. Secondly, we feed back the enhanced visible images given by the ON-antagonism system to the active cells in the center-surrounding antagonism receptive field. The fused [Formula: see text]VIS[Formula: see text]IR signal are obtained by feeding back the OFF-enhanced infrared image to the corresponding surrounding-depressing neurons. Then we feed back the enhanced visible signal from OFF-antagonism system to the depressing cells in the center-surrounding antagonism receptive field. The ON-enhanced infrared image is taken as the input signal of the corresponding active cells in the neurons, then the cell response of infrared-enhance-visible is produced in the process, it is denoted as [Formula: see text]IR[Formula: see text]VIS. The three kinds of signal are considered as R, G and B components in the output composite image. Finally, some experiments are performed in order to evaluate the performance of the proposed method. The information entropy, average gradient and objective image fusion measure are used to assess the performance of the proposed method objectively. Some traditional digital signal processing-based fusion methods are also evaluated for comparison in the experiments. In this paper, the Quantitative assessment indices show that the proposed fusion model is superior to the classical Waxman’s model, and some of its performance is better than the other image fusion methods.

AbstractEnvironmental changes and human activities can cause serious degradation of murals, where sootiness is one of the most common problems of ancient Chinese indoor murals. In order to improve the visual quality of the murals, a restoration method is proposed for sootiness murals based on dark channel prior and Retinex by bilateral filter using hyperspectral imaging technology. First, radiometric correction and denoising through band clipping and minimum noise fraction rotation forward and inverse transform were applied to the hyperspectral data of the sootiness mural to produce its denoised reflectance image. Second, a near-infrared band was selected from the reflectance image and combined with the green and blue visible bands to produce a pseudo color image for the subsequent sootiness removal processing. The near-infrared band is selected because it is better penetrating the sootiness layer to a certain extent comparing to other bands. Third, the sootiness covered on the pseudo color image was preliminarily removed by using the method of dark channel prior and by adjusting the brightness of the image. Finally, the Retinex by bilateral filter was performed on the image to get the final restored image, where the sootiness was removed. The results show that the images restored by the proposed method are superior in variance, average gradient, information entropy and gray scale contrast comparing to the results from the traditional methods of homomorphic filtering and Gaussian stretching. The results also show the highest score in comprehensive evaluation of edges, hue and structure; thus, the method proposed can support more potential studies or sootiness removal in real mural paintings with more detailed information. The method proposed shows strong evidence that it can effectively reduce the influence of sootiness on the moral images with more details that can reveal the original appearance of the mural and improve its visual quality.
