An improved control strategy for three-phase grid-connected inverters with space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is proposed. When the grid current contains harmonics, the d-and q-axes grid currents is interacted in the traditional control method, and the waveform quality of the grid current is poor. As the reference output voltage cannot directly reflect the change of the reference grid current with the traditional control strategy, the dynamic response of the grid-connected inverter is slow. In order to solve the aforementioned problems, the d-and q-axes grid currents in the decoupled components of the grid current controller are substituted by the d-and q-axes reference grid currents, respectively. The operating principles of the traditional and proposed control methods are illustrated. Experimental results show that the grid-connected inverter with the improved control strategy has high waveform quality of the grid current and fast dynamic response.

The optimal P-Q control issue of the active and reactive power for a microgrid in the grid-connected mode has attracted increasing interests recently. In this paper, an optimal active and reactive power control is developed for a three-phase grid-connected inverter in a microgrid by using an adaptive population-based extremal optimization algorithm (APEO). Firstly, the optimal P-Q control issue of grid-connected inverters in a microgrid is formulated as a constrained optimization problem, where six parameters of three decoupled PI controllers are real-coded as the decision variables, and the integral time absolute error (ITAE) between the output and referenced active power and the ITAE between the output and referenced reactive power are weighted as the objective function. Then, an effective and efficient APEO algorithm with an adaptive mutation operation is proposed for solving this constrained optimization problem. The simulation and experiments for a 3kW three-phase grid-connected inverter under both nominal and variable reference active power values have shown that the proposed APEO-based P-Q control method outperforms the traditional Z-N empirical method, the adaptive genetic algorithm-based, and particle swarm optimization-based P-Q control methods.

This paper presents the design and simulation of three phase grid-connected inverter for photovoltaic systems with power ratings up to 5 kW. In this research, the application of Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) technique for inverter is explored. With the use of SVPWM inverter, synchronization between the inverter and electrical grid follows the Phaselocked Loop (PLL) algorithm. The proposed design is simulated and validated by experimental results.

The dq impedance stability analysis for a grid-connected current-control inverter is based on the impedance ratio matrix. However, the coupled matrix brings difficulties in deriving its eigenvalues for the analysis based on the general Nyquist criterion. If the couplings are ignored for simplification, unacceptable errors will be present in the analysis. In this paper, the influence of the couplings on the dq impedance stability analysis is studied. To take the couplings into account simply, the determinant-based impedance stability analysis is used. The mechanism between the determinant of the impedance-ratio matrix and the inverter stability is unveiled. Compared to the eigenvalues-based analysis, only one determinant rather than two eigenvalue s-function is required for the stability analysis. One Nyquist plot or pole map can be applied to the determinant to check the right-half-plane poles. The accuracy of the determinant-based stability analysis is also checked by comparing with the state-space stability analysis method. For the stability analysis, the coupling influence on the current control, the phase-locked loop, and the grid impedance are studied. The errors can be 10% in the stability analysis if the couplings are ignored.
