Medicinal plants have been known for millennia as a rich source of traditional therapeutic agents for the prevention of diseases and ailments. The aim of the present study was performed to evaluate the antiulcer activities of hydro-alcoholic extracts of petals of Crocus sativus var. Cashmerianus by in-vitro methods viz. acid neutralizing capacity and H+/K+ - ATPase inhibition activity. In acid neutralizing capacity method, the petals extract significantly reduced acidity to 6.10 at a concentration of 1000 mg/ml as compared to 11.90 with standard 500 mg/ml of Aluminium hydroxide + Magnesium hydroxide combination. However, H+/K+ - ATPase inhibition activity method, petals extract showed maximum percentage inhibition of 70.31 % at the concentration 400µg/ml as compared to 73.82 % with a similar dose of standard Omeprazole. The IC 50 value of petals extract of C. sativus var. cashmerianus is shown 100 µg/ml in comparison with standard omeprazole of 82.5 µg/ml. The study reveals that the petals extract of C. sativus var. cashmerianus may contain compounds possessing acid neutralize and enzyme inhibition activities, thus it can be used as an alternative medicine for gastrointestinal disorders.

Two simple techniques for separating soil moisture loss into drainage and evapotranspiration for cropped conditions were compared. The study was conducted during May through September 1983 at Ellerslie, Alberta. One technique, the field capacity method, utilized soil tension at − 4 kPa to demarcate the cessation of drainage; the other technique, the gradient method, utilized changes in soil moisture status relative to fallow conditions, to mark the onset of moisture extraction by roots. Both methods estimated similar amounts of drainage and evapotranspiration for the barley plots. Application and thus proper evaluation of these two methods were limited as more than 83% of the total drainage occurred during a 3-wk period in which only the Penman method for estimating evapotranspiration could be used. This study explores the impact of a company’s financial flexibility on the effectiveness of its investments.The number of companies that have financial flexibility was calculated with the application of thespare debt capacity method. The research identifies the impact of financial flexibility on investment activity and on the level of suboptimal investments. The data from 1,736 companies in theAsian region, during the 2005-2015time period, are presented. The Asian region has unique institutional, economic and commercial environments that present a great basis for this paper. The results of the research reveal that financially flexible companies spend more on their investment expenditure and conduct more effective investment policiesby reducing the level of over- and underinvestment. Financial flexibility helps companies to make effective investments during a crisis period, but the difference in the flexibility between developed and developing countries and between large and small companies was not observed.

Abstract A sensitive method (Clin. Chem. 26: 327--331, 1980) for serum iron, in which the color reagent Ferrozine is used, is modified and adapted to the Abbott ABA-100 discrete analyzer. The standard curve is linear to at least 10 mg/L and the method showed day-to-day precision (CV) of 2.4% for a 1.03 mg/L sample (n = 63) and 1.9% for a 2.13 mg/L sample (n = 63). Lower values were obtained than with the modified continuous-flow technique of Giovanniello et al., but the correlation was good (r = 0.98). Bilirubin and copper do not interfere; hemoglobin and gross lipemia interfere only slightly. The total iron-binding capacity, based on Ramsay's method, was evaluated with regard to the effect of adding various amounts of magnesium carbonate. Results led us to use a ratio of approximately 180 mg of magnesium carbonate to each 5 micrograms of excess iron added. Day-to-day, the method for total iron-binding capacity gave a CV of 3.1% for a 2.55 mg/L sample, 2.8% for a 3.63 mg/L sample.
