Using Operational Calculus to Obtain Transient Response Estimates in Linear Uncertain Feedback Systems

A new methodology is presented for deriving transient response estimates for a large class of uncertain linear feedback single input/output systems, including unstable distributed parameter systems. It is shown that using operational calculus, estimates exist and can be computed even in cases where a certain error norm is greater than unity. Several simple numerical examples illustrate the application of the new methodology.

A new single-input multiple-output (SIMO) converter is proposed in this work by incorporating flyback and buck converters in a master–slave configuration. The objective of this work is to address the cross regulation problem, achieve tight voltage regulation, improve the circuit form factor and attain a fast transient response for a SIMO flyback converter. The flyback converter maintains the output channels within 10% of their rated voltages and the SIMO buck converter is placed in series with the flyback converter such that it compensates for the output voltage deviation. Moreover, a time multiplexing switching scheme decouples output channel to eliminate the cross-regulation problem and remove the need for an additional winding transformer per each output channel. A type II compensator with a peak current mode controller was designed to achieve faster transient response which is critical for the proposed configuration. A thorough steady-state analysis was carried out on a triple output channel topology to obtain the design criteria and component values. MATLAB/Simscape modelling and simulation was used to validate the effectiveness of the proposed converter with the result yielding satisfactory transience even with load disturbance. Additionally, the result of the proposed converter is compared with previously published works.

A new robust training law, which is called an input/output-to-state stable training law (IOSSTL), is proposed for dynamic neural networks with external disturbance. Based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) formulation, the IOSSTL is presented to not only guarantee exponential stability but also reduce the effect of an external disturbance. It is shown that the IOSSTL can be obtained by solving the LMI, which can be easily facilitated by using some standard numerical packages. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed IOSSTL.

Abstract A method for performing transient dynamic analysis of multi-shaft rotor system is proposed. The proposed methodology uses the reported Successive Merge and Condensation (SMAC) method [12] and a decoupling technique to decouple the shafts. Multi-shaft rotor systems are treated as systems of many independent single shaft rotor systems with external unknown coupling forces acting at the points of couplings. For each time step, first, the SMAC method is used to get the transient response in terms of the unknown coupling forces. This is followed by the application of the coupling constraints to calculate the coupling forces and, in turn, the response at the end of that time step. The proposed method preserves the efficiency advantages of the SMAC algorithm for single-shaft rotor system. Numerical examples to validate and illustrate the applicability of the method are given. The method is shown to be applicable to linear and non-linear coupling problems.
