International operators are seeking, investigating and pursuing new business opportunities in the Arctic. While operating in the Arctic, there will be a considerable need for vessels to keep their position during various operations which may include lifting, installation, crew change, evacuation, and maybe drilling. Opposed to open water, the drifting ice poses severe limitations as to how stationkeeping operations may be carried out. Dynamic positioning systems are currently developed aiding stationkeeping without mooring systems. There is a considerable need to enhance the open water DP systems for use in a new forcing environment. Essentially a new technology has to be developed with time. For that reason, considerable knowledge is required concerning current limitations and boundary conditions. This paper addresses some of the generic challenges related to DP operations in ice together with relevant learnings which are employed in mentioned DP enhancements.

Technology entrepreneurship involves creating sustainable value through capitalization and commercialization of innovative new technology, accelerates the growth of firms, and helps in promoting the sustainability of the economy. However, the literature on the business model innovation (BMI) for technology entrepreneurship has no clarity yet. Therefore, this article aims to build a business model innovation for technology entrepreneurship (BMIfTE) toward economic sustainability. To meet this aim, various publications on the subject matter have been reviewed and synthesized and I compared the logic and arguments of various scholars to draw conclusions and develop BMIfTE. The article structures the BMI for technology entrepreneurship as obtained through experimentation, generating, renewing, designing, changing, and implementation, backed by inputs such as value migration, opportunity and risk assessment, dynamic capability, stakeholders networking, firms’ strategies, and institutional ontology that contribute to sustainable economic development. In this sense, the BMI improves the current delivery system by creating a new offering system, which leads to a reconfiguration of the model by integrating with the technological ecosystem’s capabilities in creating and exploiting new business opportunities.

Dynamic Positioning Systems are used in numerous types of marine operations. Due to the important differences in the external loads acting on the vessel, standard DP systems may fail to perform in ice conditions. Moreover, specific principles and position keeping philosophies should be applied in ice covered waters. The objective of the paper is to elaborate on these aspects by presenting and analyzing full scale DP tests. These tests were a part of the station-keeping trials performed in March 2017 in drifting ice in the Bay of Bothnia. Control algorithms limitations of Standard DP Systems are presented, showing the necessity of new control principles. The importance of crew training is also demonstrated along with the approaches to keep position in ice.

Dynamic Positioning (DP) systems are intensely used in a large range of ship operations nowadays. The growing interest of Arctic exploration and exploitation may introduce a new application area for those systems. The very few full scale DP operations in the Arctic have demonstrated the need for improvements in DP systems for ice-covered waters. External forces due to the ice environment are very different from open water forces and especially the dynamic component of the loads is much higher. This paper firstly reviews DP in open water and spotlights the needs for adaptations to ice-covered regions. The architecture of a controller answering ice requirements is then presented. This system has been successfully tested at the large ice tank of the Hamburg Ship Model Basin (HSVA) in 2012 within the European R&D project DYPIC [1]. The designs of open water and ice control laws are then compared in two simulation frameworks. The first framework involves only the current, wind and waves, while the second framework deals with the ice conditions. The numerical ice simulator, utilized in this paper, is a novel high-fidelity modelling tool developed by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

The amount of paper waste, especially paper waste of yarn rolls in the socks manufactured factory and the convection industry that has not been used to get high economic value is an opportunity to open a new business, especially in the electronic and art craft product. SEPIK PANIK (Speaker of Music and Unique Display of Waste Paper Rolls) is an innovation from processing paper waste to be a unique speaker. The purposes of this program are: 1) Utilizing paper waste to get high selling value. 2) Creating handmade products from paper waste into speakers as well as unique creative display. 3) To accommodate the desire of college students who have entrepreneurial spirit and artistic creations to open new business opportunities. The method of make this SEPIK PANIK product includes 1) Making paper tube of speaker and 2) Making a Unique Display. The Sales of this product have been carried out during May to August 2019, products that have been sold are 34 units, obtained a profit of Rp. 1.170,000. Sales and promotion methods are carried out both online through social media and offline, namely direct selling and consignment. Based on these results, this business is very profitable and can benefit the surrounding environment.

The relevance of the polar lows (PLs) research is justified by their great destructive power and creation of threat to the safety of navigation in the high latitudes and along the Northern Sea Route. The most dangerous effects on maritime activities are strong winds, waves and icing. In addition, the study of the PLs acquires relevance due to the sharp decrease of the sea ice area in the Arctic in recent years and the emergence of areas of open water, suitable for the appearance and development of PLs. However, despite the importance of PLs, they are apparently not sufficiently studied. As there are no meteorological observations in the areas of their appearance, the main source of information about them are satellite observations. By using images on the SOLab SIOWS Arctic Portal from multiple satellites operating in the IR and visible ranges (e.g., MODIS and AVHRR), and using near-water wind fields from high resolution synthetic aperture radars (Sentine-1, ASAR) and low resolution scatterometers (ASCAT), we identify polar lows in various parts of the Arctic, revealing statistical regularities in the appearance of PLs, their distribution and intensity. Collected database of Pls and their characteristics will be used for further PLs forecasting model development.
