AbstractThe Schiehallion subsea development comprises two fields, Schiehallion and Loyal, which are located approximately 200 km to the west of the Shetland Islands in the UK Continental Shelf. The Schiehallion and Loyal fields were discovered in late 1993 and 1994, respectively, with a combined oil-in-place of more than 2.3 Bbbl. The fields are developed under waterflood and were on production from 1998 to 2013. After an extended shut-in, the fields were brought back on line in 2017, through new floating production facilities.Most of the production to date has been from the Paleocene Vaila Formation deep-water turbidite, in the T31 and T34 reservoir intervals. The ongoing Quad 204 redevelopment drilling programme commenced in April 2015, has drilled and completed 21 wells to date, and is expected to continue for several more years. The campaign includes new producer–injector pairs and stand-alone wells to support existing well stock, targeting stacked turbidite reservoir intervals, including the youngest T35–T34 interval, the main T31 interval and the previously under-developed T28–T25 fairway.In addition to an active drilling programme, a 4D seismic survey was acquired and processed in 2018, and its interpretation is key to unlocking further potential sources of value in this mature field.

AbstractA study of Wisconsinan loess in part of southeastern Minnesota confirms earlier suggestions that much of the loess in this region was not derived flora the floodplain of the Mississippi River. Two Wisconsinan loess units, the Peoria Loess and Roxana Silt, occur in the study area. Peoria Loess, 1-8 m thick, fines systematically eastward from an abrupt western border toward the Mississippi. There are no apparent grain-size trends away from other adjacent rivers. Peoria Loess thickness generally decreases eastward, but is highly variable, probably because of differential erosion. Potential sources for this unit are pre-Wisconsinan sediments on the Iowan Erosion Surface immediately west of the border of thick loess and Wisconsinan glacial sources tens or hundreds of kilometers to the west. The underlying Roxana Silt, up to 1 m thick, occurs only near the Mississippi and fines away from that river. The Roxana Silt deposit could reflect aggradation of the Mississippi floodplain because of glacial activity upstream and does not have clear implications for upland vegetation near the study area. By contrast, transport of the Peoria Loess from distant glacial sources or wind erosion of upland surfaces closer to the loess deposit both imply extensive, very sparsely vegetated surfaces west of the study area when the Peoria Loess accumulated.

Approximately 60,000 tons per day of waste from taconite mining, tailing, are added to the west arm of Lake Superior at Silver Bay. Tailings contain nearly the same amount of quartz and amphibole asbestos, cummingtonite and actinolite in fibrous form. Cummingtonite fibres from 0.01μm in length have been found in the water supply for Minnesota municipalities.The purpose of the research work was to develop a method for asbestos fibre counts and identification in water and apply it for the enumeration of fibres in water samples collected(a) at various stations in Lake Superior at two depth: lm and at the bottom.(b) from various rivers in Lake Superior Drainage Basin.

In the West Nile District of Uganda lives a population of white rhino—those relies of a past age, cumbrous, gentle creatures despite their huge bulk—which estimates only 10 years ago, put at 500. But poachers live in the area, too, and official counts showed that white rhino were being reduced alarmingly. By 1959, they were believed to be diminished to 300.
