Optical micro-ring resonators (MRRs) element can be used in many applications. This paper we propose a photonics circuit design based on optical tree architecture (OTA) for all-optical elements by using the modified add-drop filter for an all-optical arithmetic logic unit (ALU) aimed for computing applications system. All-optical 2x4 decoder, all-optical comparator, all-optical half adder, all-optical half subtractor, all-optical full adder, all-optical full subtractor and proposed new design all-optical 4x16 decoder were proposed. We have studied the nonlinear effect in the modified add-drop filter system, which is control by injected the nonlinear pulses on top as an input for generated all-optical logic and arithmetic operations simultaneously at the through and drop port of modified add-drop filter. The optical input and control field of the modified add-drop filter circuit can be formed by nonlinear dark and bright pluses. The obtained simulation results have shown that the nonlinear pulse generated by the nonlinear modified add-drop filter can control the output consistency, which is important when the interconnect between each circuit output parts are required. The advantages of the modified add-drop filter are low power, ultra-fast switching, tuneable and high security which is compact size and footprint. It is suitable for the next generation of all-optical small-scale device and all-optical computing system requirements.

In this paper an ultra-compact all-optical encoder is presented by using a two-dimensional photonic crystal. The designed logic gate is based on the interference effect. The proposed structure consists of several photonic crystal waveguides connected by 2 nano-resonators. The nano-resonators are designed to reduce the size of the radius of the dielectric rods. The contrast ratios and delay time for the proposed all-optical encoder are respectively 6 dB and 125 fs. The size of the structure is equal to 132 µm2. Equality of the output power in the logic states “one”, the small dimensions, the low delay time, compact and simple structure have shown that the logic gate is suitable for the using in optical integrated circuits. AbstractIn this paper, we aim to design an all-optical structure that can be employed as optical OR/AND logic gates. To do so, a nonlinear photonic crystal-based ring resonator will be designed whose resonant wavelength depends on the variation of optical intensity. Then, by adding some optical waveguides, the optical logic circuit structure will be obtained that can function as optical OR/AND logic gates. The maximum time delay for the proposed structure is about 1.5 ps. Total footprint of the proposed structure is about 372 mm2. The proposed structure has lower time delay, lower footprint and lower optical input power compared with previously proposed structures.

Abstract Optical logic gates can play crucial roles for designing all optical data processing circuits. Photonic crystals are one of the suitable platforms that can be used for designing all optical devices. In this paper an optical XOR gate was designed using nonlinear ring resonators. The proposed structure works are based on threshold switching. The working wavelength and the switching threshold of the resonators are 1550 nm and 1.8 W/μm2, respectively. The rise time is about 1 ps and the ON/OFF contrast ratio is about 16 dB.

Abstract Optical half subtractors are required for designing any optical computation system. Operation speed and the on/off contrast ratios are very important characteristics for any optical logic device. A novel structure composed of three nonlinear ring resonators and some optical waveguides are used for designing for the proposed half subtractor with improved operation speed and on/off contrast ratio. The simulation results show that the rise time for this structure is 1.5 ps. Also the on/off contrast ratios for B and D are 13.7 dB and 14.5 dB respectively.
