We report the entire genome sequence of an isolate of Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus from Nigeria, West Africa. The genome is 132,710 bp long and contains 144 open reading frames. The GC content is 40.3% and, based on baculovirus species demarcation criteria, the isolate belongs to the species Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus .

ABSTRACT Novel mycobacteriophage XianYue was isolated in Northeast Georgia and infects Mycobacteria smegmatis mc2155. Actinobacteriophages which share at least 50% nucleotide identity are grouped into clusters, with XianYue in cluster A2. Its genome is 52,907 bp with 91 open reading frames (ORFs) and 62.9% GC content, and it shares 86.51% nucleotide identity with mycobacteriophage Trixie.

ABSTRACTM102AD is the new designation for aStreptococcus mutansphage described in 1993 as phage M102. This change was necessitated by the genome analysis of anotherS. mutansphage named M102, which revealed differences from the genome sequence reported here. Additional host range analyses confirmed thatS. mutansphage M102AD infects only a few serotype c strains. Phage M102AD adsorbed very slowly to its host, and it cannot adsorb to serotype e and f strains ofS. mutans. M102AD adsorption was blocked by c-specific antiserum. Phage M102AD also adsorbed equally well to heat-treated and trypsin-treated cells, suggesting carbohydrate receptors. Saliva and polysaccharide production did not inhibit plaque formation. The genome of this siphophage consisted of a linear, double-stranded, 30,664-bp DNA molecule, with a GC content of 39.6%. Analysis of the genome extremities indicated the presence of a 3′-overhangcossite that was 11 nucleotides long. Bioinformatic analyses identified 40 open reading frames, all in the same orientation. No lysogeny-related genes were found, indicating that phage M102AD is strictly virulent. No obvious virulence factor gene candidates were found. Twelve proteins were identified in the virion structure by mass spectrometry. Comparative genomic analysis revealed a close relationship betweenS. mutansphages M102AD and M102 as well as withStreptococcus thermophilusphages. This study also highlights the importance of conducting research with biological materials obtained from recognized microbial collections.

ABSTRACT Bovine herpesvirus 4 (BoHV-4) is a gammaherpesvirus of cattle. The complete long unique coding region (LUR) of BoHV-4 strain 66-p-347 was determined by a shotgun approach. Together with the previously published noncoding terminal repeats, the entire genome sequence of BoHV-4 is now available. The LUR consists of 108,873 bp with an overall G+C content of 41.4%. At least 79 open reading frames (ORFs) are present in this coding region, 17 of them unique to BoHV-4. In contrast to herpesvirus saimiri and human herpesvirus 8, BoHV-4 has a reduced set of ORFs homologous to cellular genes. Gene arrangement as well as phylogenetic analysis confirmed that BoHV-4 is a member of the genusRhadinovirus. In addition, an origin of replication (ori) in the genome of BoHV-4 was identified byDpnI assays. A minimum of 1.69 kbp located between ORFs 69 and 71 was sufficient to act as a cis signal for replication.
