Approach to equilibrium of a quantum system and generalization of the Montroll–Shuler equation for vibrational relaxation of a molecular oscillator

The approach to equilibrium of a quantum mechanical system in interaction with a bath is studied from a practical as well as a conceptual point of view. Explicit memory functions are derived for given models of bath couplings. If the system is a harmonic oscillator representing a molecule in interaction with a reservoir, the generalized master equation derived becomes an extension into the coherent domain of the well-known Montroll–Shuler equation for vibrational relaxation and unimolecular dissociation. A generalization of the Bethe–Teller result regarding energy relaxation is found for short times. The theory has obvious applications to relaxation dynamics at ultra-short times as in observations on the femtosecond time scale and to the investigation of quantum coherence at those short times. While vibrational relaxation in chemical physics is a primary target of the study, another system of interest in condensed matter physics, an electron or hole in a lattice subjected to a strong DC electric field that gives rise to well-known Wannier–Stark ladders, is naturally addressed with the theory. Specific system–bath interactions are explored to obtain explicit details of the dynamics. General phenomenological descriptions of the reservoir are considered rather than specific microscopic realizations.

Purpose Efficient corporate governance is always important to safeguard the interest of all the stakeholders in the business environment. Therefore, this study focuses on the investigation of the relationship between accounting information systems (AIS) and corporate governance in the textile sector of Pakistan. The textile sector is the backbone of the Pakistani economy and has an important contribution toward the gross domestic product and as well as exports of the country. Design/methodology/approach The data were collected from the finance managers with the sample size of 300 firms of All Pakistan textile mills association, self-delivery and collection method used. Both descriptive and inferential statistics used to analyze data through the Statistical Package for Social Sciences 23. Findings The findings of this study proved that AIS has a significant impact on corporate governance. It is important from the management point of view to record the daily transaction in a better way with the use of a specific system and every member uses the computerized system to accomplish their tasks in the organization. Originality/value The textile industry is the backbone of Pakistan’s economy. The study conducted in this paper by primary data and drawing original contributions in the existing literature. Moreover, the findings of this study are going to have considerable theoretical and practical implications for the market.

Vibrational relaxation dynamics of trans-stilbene in the S1 state immediately after photoexcitation is studied by picosecond time-resolved anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy with several pump and probe wavelengths. Pump-wavelength dependence of the anti- Stokes spectrum indicates that, when pump photons with high excess energy (≈5200cm-1) are used, the anti-Stokes Raman bands at 0 ps delay time arise from vibrationally excited transients with excess vibrational energy not thermally distributed in the molecule. Probe-wavelength dependence suggests that the vibrationally excited transients at 0 ps are mostly on the lowest excited vibrational levels, as far as the olefinic C═C stretching and the C–Ph stretching modes are concerned. The vibrational relaxation process of S1trans-stilbene is discussed on the basis of the observed results.
